New commit - Abdulsamad Zaid

6'2" G from Barstow JC in Cal just committed to you guys. 17.5 ppg, 35% from 3.

Nice find George. Just a question, but wasn't the Ag's interested in Absulsamad too? I'm totally shocked by this. I had no idea. So much for what I think I know.

Where is the link? I can't find anything that says he commited to Weber State. Im surprised if its true. Even without Lillard we have plenty of good guards coming back. Where would he get minutes unless they redshirt Brown. We have Wheelright, Bamforth, and Berry starting with Richardson and Brown backing them up. I was hoping Weber would go after a D1 transfer to come in and sit out like Berry and Otis have the last couple years. Anyway, it will be interesting to see who we add to the team.

PS. The CIT it CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How the F do we not host? I don't even care about the game on Sunday really. Loyola and the rest of the CIT can suck on Bengalhaters Nut Sack.

Makes a lot of sense to bring in someone who is a combo, & share minutes with G Wheel, & Bamforth, and move to SG after Bamforth graduates. Richardson's #'s have been severely reduced, & Brown hasn't seen the light of day, probably for a reason.

I watched his high school highlights and some JC ones. He looks solid. I like that he is 6'2 and 200 lbs. Im guessing Brown is a definate red shirt or transfer now. I hope red shirt. I think he could be a solid player in a couple year. Kind of like Nick Hansen type. So our depth chart looks like this now. So Im going to assume Zaid gets minutes behind Bam and Berry.

Is Zaid going to be our only signee this spring?? I know the Cats were in the market for a Wing, yes, Zaid is a CG, but for the last year, he has been the BCC's PG. Is this a sign? Is Lillard leaving for sure? Well, we all knew he would, and even though we would all love more than anything to see him play another year in Ogden, we all know it is best for him to take the opportunity that is before him now and go to the NBA.

If Lillard is in fact leaving (this will be the only thing catcat reads, and i'm sure he will have some type of lame comment about it) then I would suspect that the coaching staff will be signing 2 maybe even up to 3 this spring, if good players are available.

It is good to know that Weber is getting a player who will be able to score, but are they getting a player who is a shut down defender? To me Weber needs to improve on the defensive side of the ball, get a lot tougher, and become a far better rebounding team, while maintaining (increasing would be better) our assist to turnover ratio.

Another factor the Cats need to replace is their glue players. They need guys who will do the little things to cause turnovers, hit the floor, and bring toughness to the court. A guy who can keep the team balanced and fill in the stat sheet. To be honest, I was hoping for a 6-4/6-5/6-6 Wing. A guy like Daviin Davis, Nic Sparrow, or, dare I say, Chehales Tapscott. Yes, I know, Bull would have been the top guy this season, if he wouldn't have had his untimely injury, but it happened, and with it Weber's chance to be thoroughly dominant. To me, it was really nice seeing Bull hit 3 threes in the first half against Utah Valley, but then he passed up a bunch of shots he would have taken in the past in the second half. No matter, think of Chehales as a Wildcat? Wow!!! I sure hope that Tal is right and that that guy on a mission is in fact planning on coming back. He seems like a character I would really like to watch play in a Weber State uniform.

One of three??? Anyone from Utah? Does our coaching staff even recruit Utah kids? Need to get the kids in our backyard. I'm still really wondering how Ben Aird ended up at UVU.

I think were still forgetting about Logan Foster the walk on from california. Ive seen a couple practices even though its so hard to actually get in there during practice time. He looks like a good guard has good height on him, he seems and is listed to be about that 6'3 type height. It'll be interesting to see if hell be back and what the coaches will do with him, seems like a bit of a late bloomer but those are the best kinds. Meaning he hasn't developed his full potential yet. We just need to bulk him up and make him hit the weights. Good shooter, and can penetrate and dish. He hangs in there with the best of them, and scores doing so. Also seems to be a good kid from what I've herd.

and I'm still really wondering why you have such a man crush for Ben Aird  Ben was highly motivated to play against WSU. I would still take Tresnak ANY DAY over Aird. Tresnak is a much more complete player.

Just pointing out how Weber can miss on Utah talent. Not saying he is better than Tres, but he isn't any worse. Why wouldn't you want a 21 year old Freshman big? I'm glad the coaching staff got Van Pelt, and that he is planning on returning to Weber after his mission.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens with Foster. I can't say much about him, since I've never seen him play before. But if he is around next fall, that says something about the kid and what the coaching staff thinks of him.

I don't think they missed on him. If I remember correctly coming out of high school he had an offer from Utah. During his mission with the coaching changes he was dropped by Utah. I am sure we were not expecting him to be available and had offers already out to other players. UVU was in the right place and time that they had a scholarship available when he got home.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Ben-Aird-65576" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. He signed with UVU out of high school.

I think you are thinking of Neal Monson from Waterford High School. He signed with Utah when Boyle was the coach, but was released by LK at the end of last season. Before leaving he contacted each state school asking about scholie options. He is currently halfway through his mission, and would be a solid addition when he gets home. He will have 4 to play 4. Also, we can't forget about the other former Ute from Rexburg who is coming back to Weber after his mission. I do and don't agree with Tal. Yes, it would be nice to see more Utah players on our roster, but coaching is a business. Best way to get wins is through solid recruiting. Utah doesn't have enough DI calibre players to feed 6 DI schools.

Wait a second...I have nothing against Coach Rahe or any of his recruits. I think that he is doing an amazing job. I'm really excited to see Bolomboy, Hill, and Zaid (and whoever else signs this spring) join the Cat Community next Fall. I was just saying that there are a handful of Utah players we miss out on. I'm sure the coaching staff is doing a thorough job of recruiting Utah. Any news on the Parson's kid from South Sevier?

Nathan Sobey is going on visit tomorrow. Not sure where right now, but its either to Laramie or Ogden. Good thing its gonna be 70 tomorrow. That will the high for Laramie in June sometime.

Im just wondering why Weber State is offering another shooting guard. We have Zaid commited already and have Wheelright, Richardson, Bamforth, Brown and Berry all slated to come back next year. It makes me wonder if one of 5 players I just mentioned are transfering. Im just speculating, but makes me wonder. I can see some of them redshirting, but you usually don't red shirt a JC player. You bring in JC's to contribute right away. I have watched both Zaid's and Shobey's highlights and they both look like solid players, I just wonder with all the guys we have coming back, where will minutes come from? My guess and its just a guess is that Brown will redshirt and if we bring in both of these JC's then one of them will redshirt too.

I could be dead wrong about this, but I don't see both of those kids coming in. One of them , if any. I will be shocked if at least one of the two potential spots isn't filled with a big wing, 6'4'' +, who is athletic and can score, rebound, and play D. Both of those kids look like tweeners to me, and, like you say, we are stocked with tweeners. I'd rather see the positions left open, than bringing in someone who can't take us to the next level. If all that we are doing is bringing someone in to ride the pine, seems to me like you might as well try to bring someone in who can help the track team, or maybe someone who can do laundry, or help some of the kids with their homework. You know, something useful. :bad:
