Riordan is in the DIII finals at American Canyon High tomorrow. The ten game glich is just that.....a glich. He's played all year. If you noticed on maxpreps everyone on the team only played ten games. Incomplete data. I've never seen him in person but understand he's a decent outside shooter, can drive the middle and most importantly he's a real demon on defense. We needed to get a guard, preferably a freshman, to transition to the 2015-2016 season.

Article on Riordan game: http://www.maxpreps.com/news/UeRD-7gvLEGs9R0OUNTb6w/drake,-riordan-headline-the-norcal-playoff-surprise-squads.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In the article: "Riordan rattled off nine wins in its next 11 and have played superbly in the playoffs, highlighted by a 72-68 overtime win at second-seed Campolindo-Orinda Tuesday when Sacramento State-bound Jiday Ugbaja scored 29, Chiefy added 22 and 16 rebounds and Galindo tallied 17. Jiday Ugbaja had six 3-pointers against Campolindo and is now the school single-season holder with 79."

So if everything plays out then that leaves 1 schollie available. Anybody have a guess as to who or what position it will be used on?

Since you have everyone coming back and don't need someone to HAVE to come in and play big minutes, my guess is Mason Stuteville. He would provide a skill level with size that Sac St. doesn't usually get a shot at. He would be able to assimilate into the rotation as he learns and not be thrown into situations he's not ready for yet. That's my two cents....

Mason Stuteville would be a huge get for Katz. He and his brother would anchor the frontcourt for the next 4 years! He's more than a two-star player if paired with his brother.

Mason Stuteville has committed.

Looks like Mason Stuteville it is!!

It's a good get at the right time. Mason can come in and get acclimated to D1 without having to make an immediate impact. If he works as hard as his brother and improves as quickly it won't be long till he's making a difference. Coach Katz has got another good recruiting class of freshmen. Next year he may have to lean on the JC ranks a bit more as there will be a more immediate need then. Front court now looks pretty solid for at least 3 years and more likely 4 years. With Hornsby, Eric, Justin, and Mason on board for the next 3 as well as Zach and Alex for next year, we could have a pretty deep and strong rotation.

2014 starters...

PG Garrity
SG McKinney
SF Demps/Hornsby
PF M. Stuteville/Tiffin
C E. Stuteville/Tiffin

You're close Kadeezy but my guess is: Garrity, McKinney, Demps, Hornsby and E. Stuteville. You have to earn you're starts by bustin butt on defense in practice. Whatever it turns out it's kind of nice having to put an E. or M. in front of Stuteville.

Good get if these verbals hold and these guys ink. If this holds, this will be a solid class and address needs in the front court.

I disagree with the notion that we don't need an impact player immediately. Remember we were only the 7th best team in the BSC at the conclusion of the regular season. There is still plenty of room for improvement, and it needs to be seen in the front court with the continued development of E. Stuteville and Hornsby with contributions form either Mills, Tiffin, Demps, or these new guys. We really need to see another step forward for this program as we will have the best back court in the BSC entering the season.

Where did I say we didn't NEED an impact player? It would always be nice to get an impact player but we didn't get a "no doubt" impact player. My prediction about the starters for next year shows improvement by not inserting the same five from last year even if they're still on the roster. Having Mills, Tiffin, M. Stuteville and Strings available on the bench is a big step up for the coming year. That's not considering the improvement of Barlett, Rada, and Ogbaja. I see this as great recruiting and future planning as well.

Fome above:

It wasn't meant as smack, just my translation of the statement. The Hornets need to strike when the iron is hot, and that happens to be when we return the best backcourt in the BSC (next season). I agree the Hornets won't be completely dependent on these new guys but they will need to contribute to a certain level if this program wants to continue to progress.

I'm not relying on Tiffin to be more than a body to eat up minutes, grabs a few board, and commit some fouls. He will be a 5th year senior that to this point has shown no ability to be a scoring threat and was a liability at the stripe. I would label him as a reserve but that is Okwudobonye's role.

Biggest hole heading into next season is the 4. If Hornsby is going to fill that role then his efforts will need to be supplemented by the new bigs coming in. That is where the impact will need to be.

So long as Demps continues to improve we will be fine at 3, along with Mills coming off the bench or a continued platoon with Hornsby here.

Backcourt is set. Barring injury Ogbaja won't see much action next season. It would be nice if opportunities arise so that he can get meaningful playing time but I don't think he will see the court much.

Just my :twocents: . Plenty to be optimistic about heading into next season, especially if these recruits follow through on their verbals.
