New Contract for Newlee

I'm always intrigued by the different "incentives" coaches and ADs develop in contracts these days. The University of Idaho is proposing a couple of interesting twists in women's basketball Coach Jon Newlee's contract extension, which will be considered by the State Board in Pocatello today. Among the incentives: Newlee will get 25 percent of all gate receipts above $15,000; and he will be entitled to all revenue over $10,000 generated by "guarantee" games on the road, minus the cost of any guarantees Idaho would pay to attract non-conference home games.

Jon will also get $2,000 for 14 wins, another $2,000 for 17 wins and another $2,000 for 20 or more. There are also bonuses for specific APR levels, conference championships, NCAA and WNIT appearances and coach of the year recognition. If he cashed all of the available bonuses, he'd be making about $150 K in the final year of his contract, which would run through 2016.
