Hi there. I've been meaning to join this forum for a while now so I figured better get it done or before I know it, it will be football season again. I'm a new Eagle fan and here is a little introduction and background.

Name: Brian
Age: 54
Home: Buckley, Wa. (between Puyallup and Enumclaw). Born in Bellevue grew up in Burien.

I’ve been a collage football fan since 7th grade thanks to Sonny Sixkiller and the U-Dub. Even though the Seahawks are the biggest thing here (they haven't always been) I never really got on board with them. College football is where it’s at for me. The rivalries, the enthusiasm, the atmosphere, the traditions.

It was right before my High School senior year a buddy of mine's Dad had Seahawk season ticket for their first year(1976) and his dad had to work so he gave them to us. It was their second preseason game ever and the first game they played in the King Dome (what a dump! Cold, grey, concrete echo chamber). Their first game I saw the week before on TV (played in Cheney! Chime in if you’re old enough to remember that!) and I thought, this is gunna be cool. We rode the bus downtown and once outside the dome I noticed all the fans that were packing their Husky seat cushions. Seahawk season tickets sold out in no time and then it was plainly obvious were they were all coming from. They were jumping ship faster than a seagull on a dead hearing. They were playing the 49ers who had Jim Plunkett at QB. I can't even remember who started for Seattle but in the first half Plunkett picked them apart. I do remember in the second half that they put a rookie QB in the game who made some nice scrambles and could roll out and throw on the run. I remember people digging through there program to see who this rookie was. Some guy from Cal-Poly named Jim Zorn. Those first couple of years the Seahawks were awful and they ran ever trick play in the book just to keep games interesting. The pro game just never caught on with me. My Huskies on the other had Don James and they were just starting to catch fire.

I love Husky football and I love watching Pac-10/12 football on Saturday catching a game at noon then at 4pm and the late game on Saturday night even if its Arizona vs. Oregon State. Heck I even pull for the Cougars now and then!

Well if you're still with me lets fast forward about 40 years, now married with two daughters and the younger one has enrolled at EWU so I decide to do a little checking up on the football program but this is what I already knew. I knew they had a good program and that they were 2010 champions and remember watching (I think) a semifinal game on ESPN, can’t forget that red field. I watched them play my Huskies and Bo Levi and Brandon Kaufman tore up the Husky defense on all except the last play. Also the next year another close one with the Cougars. Watched a few You Tube highlights of last season, so coming into this year’s opener I knew they had a good team.

Opening weekend this year I was a jacked for college football. I had a new big screen TV ( which has since craped out) my wife cousins were coming over (they are our game buddies) and had Buffalo wings on the grill and cold brew from nearby Elkhead brewery. We were excited for the big Boise State Husky match up but the day before we told them to come over early and we would watch the EWU game for a warm up. Did I think Eastern could win? I thought it was possible (that's why they play the game) but highly unlikely but I thought they could make a good showing. Well what a Saturday! My Huskies won but that Eastern/OSU game, WOW! I was hooked and we have watched every Eagle game we can since. I caught the Toledo game on ESPN3 and over here we have Root sports so I got to see Montana, Montana State, Portland State. Plus we watched all the playoff games. By the way we traveled over with the cousins and a couple of other parents for the Southern Utah homecoming game. Great weather and we staked out a spot in the lower parking lot across from the stadium, broke out the BBQ, chairs and even the corn hole boards and had a great time tailgating and mingling with all the others .
I hate to say it but I was more into the Eags this year than my Huskies. I bookmarked Krem2 news, Spokesman Review, KHQ, KLXY, Eagle athletics, man I just can't get enough. We are already planning for next year.

At my work we now have a Eastern poster along with the Husky and Seahawks posters and my coworkers now know who Vernon Adams and Cooper Kupp are and to my surprise on Monday some of them tell me they caught the Eastern game on TV.
So in closing I just want to say thank you to the coaches and all the seniors and the rest of the team, students and fans for a great year!
Go Eags!

Welcome to the fold! Glad you managed to find the best kept secret for football in Washington. Bring more folks with you whenever possible!

Eagledawg,
Welcome to the blog, there are some great individuals on this blog. I am a dedicated Eagle Fan, and former employee of University Police department. I know you will love the University, and everything that goes with it. Again welcome. Vic Wallace

To All,
Eagle MBB defeated Montana Griz by 7 points tonight, great game. Saw our Football Coaches with the FB Team, and they got a "Standing Ovation" from the Eagle Fans there in Reese Court, after all the awards were read. Team left little while after their introduction. Coaches, Baldwin, Sawyer, and Strandley, stayed, and there were about 11 Recruits that were sitting in the end zone with said Coaches. Didn't know any of them, will probably have some more on Saturday at MSU game which is at 2pm. Can't wait for the Spring practices. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Who you going to root for on 9/6? :D
Well, we are definitely going to the game and since school won't in session yet both my daughters will be going with. I plan to get tickets through the Eagle ticket office so we can sit in the EWU section. As to who I will root for, well I will be pulling for the Eagles but I just hope it will be an exciting game. Last time they played the Eags should have won. I remember the Eageles fumbling a punt and the UW kicker making a 50+ field goal so that game was about as close as it could get, however the Husky team they will be facing will be way better than that prior team. But trust me after knocking off OSU and the recent success of the EWU program the Eagles will have the Huskies full attention.

In the future I will have question about other upcoming games and so forth.

It's nice to see new people gravitate toward the program, especially from the West side. For people like me who've been around for a while and watched the administration swim upstream for credibility on a shoestring budget, it's nice to see all of those labors yield some fruit. It's been decades in the making.

As far as the UW game next year, I think Eastern is a live underdog. Frankly, I think UW got the best of the new coaching carousel by ditching Sarkisian and picking up Peterson. But synching a coach to a team often takes some time, and I'm hoping that plays to Eastern's advantage. Plus, UW loses a lot of skill players including the QB, which is a good thing. I think Eastern will be less of an underdog in this one than against Oregon State this year. I expect the line in the high teens.

FWIW, if Eastern doesn't lose much of a step with the new DL players and finds a new coverage corner, I think this game is winnable. I worry a little bit about the matchups on the receivers and the ability to assert some level of control on the line when playing defense. Those will likely be the two biggest question marks for EWU all next season.

LDopaPDX,
I started at EWU Oct 1974, under President George H. Frederickson (sp), sounds like we might been there at the same time. University Police Department, was located on the 1st floor of Monroe Hall, Women Center was also there on the side towards Tawanka Commons, and Black Education Program, was located there on the side towards Hargraves Hall. Remember those, then we was sent to the Red Barn, that is when I started saying in gesture, the President sent "PIGS" University Police Department, to Red Barn "where the Pigs used to be.   It didn't go over to well, so I knocked it off, in a big hurry.
