OH: The point wasn't whether or not to can Sears this soon. It was to have an option immediately available IF Sears is canned. Realistically, he should get his five years to try to pull the proverbial pan out of the fire. A secondary objective is to generate some discussion during what is usually a dead period for us during the off-season. That said, your note on the transparency of the program under Sears is definitely a good thing to see. Thank you for mentioning that.
SR: Canales was hampered by poor recruiting (i.e. Dan McCarney didn't do much oversight and it's kinda hard to recruit to Denton, anyway, given the presence of TX, A&M, Tech, etc.). They also had a major rash of injuries this year. His offense at UOP (yes, the Tigers were 3-8) generated a Pac-10 win, and he was responsible for Rivers, a #1 draft pick, at NC State.
For the board: If you want, we can start a list of potential successors if we think it's likely that the AD will do like the 2000-era Raiders and continue firing people at a prodigious rate. That said, I hope OH is right in that we may be about to get some stability. I have friends who are quite close to Sears, and they say that he's a great guy with a wonderful football mind. Hopefully that has a chance to play out.
