Sources have confirmed to KPVI News 6 that Bill Evans will be the next Men’s Basketball Coach for Idaho State University. Evans is currently serving as the assistant coach at the University of Montana.

When asked for comment Idaho State said they would stay with their original statement and announce the new head coach at the news conference Thursday.

Evans has been in coaching for 33 years having spent time as a Graduate Assistant for Idaho State in 1984-85. He also received his master’s degree in athletic administration from ISU in 1985.

Coach Evans has also spent time as the Head Man at Southern Utah (1992-2007) where he led the Thunderbirds to the NCAA tournament in 2001.

The News Conference to announce Bill Evans as the Head Coach will be Thursday. Tune in to KPVI News 6 that night to see Sports Director Matt Gittins one-on-one interview with the new Head Coach of the Bengals.

Really great jazz pianist...

OK sorry (but true) — I think this is a good signing. SUU should have never let him go and his success there will help him at ISU, which is a similar program in a lot of ways.

I think he is a huge factor for Tinkle and the Grizz, but I guess we will find out when he leaves.

ISU is getting a coach that is hugely responsible for a Big Sky Championship. Tinkle-bell is a good coach, but having a 15 year veteran HC sitting next to you, who is a defensive expert, knows how to recruit, and gets the absolute most from his players. YIKES!! Montana fans have no idea how much of a difference Evans made for their team.

For Idaho Staters...no matter, its gonna take a few years for Evans. He is being left with nothing. The Cupboard is pretty bare in Poky. I'm thinking a few more players will be leaving the Bengal program before everything is said and done. All good things take time.
