New predictions anyone???

I created a topic about predictions on how the basketball team would do in the Big sky conference...and majority of the answers came back with 6th or somewhere around there...15 games through the season the Bears are smashing most expectations...and the people in Greeley and most recently in Denver have taken notice. I do realize that we are 1-1 in the Big Sky so far this year...But my question for everyone is, with the brilliant start that UNC has exhibited do your expectations change? GO BEARS!

Good question. I would love to see us win the regular season which I think would at least put us in the NIT. As we have learned on our trip to Montana, the wins will not come easily. While my heart says we can win it all, my mind thinks there could be a few surprises. I say we finish 2nd or 3rd in the conference and make it to the finals of the tournament.

What a run it would be.

I think we have a really good chance of winning the conference championship, not sure where we'll finish because I'm sure we'll have at least a slip up or two some where along the road. We make the conference tourney, which I'm sure we'll do, we're golden.

The hardest part of being a fan is being patient when your team is doing well. Conf play is a marathon and you can only hope to just win the next game.

should be interesting though with all these games on back to back nights, anyone can slip up.

WSU and UNC lookin good, UM is having a slow and unexpected 1-3 start.

Next week will be some big games!

Jan 7 Weber State* Greeley, CO 7:00 PM
Jan 9 Idaho State* Greeley, CO 7:00 PM

I fear the Bears more than anybody else in the Big SKy conference this year, Weber will have to play thier best ball to get a win in Greeley next week. I think Weber can do it, but boy is it gonna be tough.

Although I fear the Bears now, I am so impressed with what they have done so far this year, keep it up.

I was thinking the same thing about Weber. I'm going to the game on the 7th--should be a good one!

As far as a new prediction--I'm tempted to be really optimistic but I have to think about how Montana State handled our Bears with no problem at all and I gotta think there are gonna be more of those coming from other teams. I'm thinking top 3 for sure. I don't really care about the regular season, we just have to get in and win that tournament. The scenario I would have the hardest time with would be if we win the regular season title and can't win the tournament.

If UNC can win the reg. season, it's not only a great accomplishment, but it guarantees home court in the conf. tourney AND guarantees post-season regardless of the conf. tourney result. The NIT automatically selects conference champions who do not gain the automatic qualifer through the league tourney.

Go Bears! I am a Kansas fan and have been following this team since '07 (since TB took over), and listen to many of the games on KFKA... I am excited to see what Boyle does. The great

You all also need to look at the KenPom site --> he currently predicts UNC to win essentially all of their remaining games but one (@WSU). Love it. http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Northern%20Colorado

I think the regular season matters tremendously. Lets say we win the conference tourney for argument's sake. If you dominate the league during the regular season and then win the tourney, you put yourselves in a position where you avoid somebody like Texas (best team in the country IMO) as an example, and instead end up in a situation where you play somebody you might be able to upset in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament. Pile up the wins, get the Big Sky tourney to Greeley, win it and put yourselves in a good position come Selection Sunday.

This is definitely putting the cart before the horse ... but if we do win the regular season, we'll host, but at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. The Big Sky has a 5,000-seat requirement for hosting the conference tourney ...

Just to keep everyone in the loop.

We should have already been playing the CSU, DU, and other games there... but hey, check the posts, I didn't mention that like 5 years ago or anything... ha ha

To me thats actually a huge bummer. Remote sites, no matter how nice, shiny new and big are never as good as campus sites.

What should have happened was that Greeley and UNC should have realized the benefits to having an arena before Loveland built theirs so that way we would have had a great facility on campus. Now there is not a market for that kind of thing and we will be stuck with BH forever IMHO..

Yeah, if that's actually the case, I would have loved for some of our games to be played at the arena already so it would feel like home.

Be great to have a tournament there like the AF tournament with say CSU, UNC, DU and CU. All within a 1 hour drive.

I completely agree. That would be lame to have the tourney 20 miles from campus. I remember when there was talk of building the one at or near UNC but greeleyites were content watching csu and cu--so they wouldn't stand behind the university and help with funding. Now they're jumping on the bandwagon but I'm afraid its too little too late.

I know PSU and Sac aren't allowed to host in their home arenas but I've never heard if it pertained to UNC.

It's in the Big Sky code ... it has nothing to do with Portland State or Sacramento State, in particular.

It's an all-programs-encompassing rule stating that 5,000 seats are required to host. We're actually pretty luck to have a place like the BEC so close. When the Viks hosted two years ago, it was in the Rose Garden and didn't look great on national TV.

I wish we could host in Butler, but it's out of our control. The BEC is on retainer every year, and we've already made the call for this season.

Here's this guys prediction:

"March 20th: Duke’s Nolan Smith scores 23 points as the Blue Devils hold off Northern Colorado 74-70 to advance to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA tournament. UNC had beaten Michigan in the tournament’s opening round after winning the Big Sky Conference title in Tad Boyle’s third season as head coach."

Do you know how freaking unbelievable it would be to get into The Dance!? I'm trying not to write about it too much or think about it too much, because I don't want to get my hopes up too high. We still have to win the conference tourney.

So we could host this year? When do we know?

If UNC wins the Big Sky Conference that automatically host the conference tournament...and what I have heard is that if you host and do not get into march madness then you receive an NIT bid. So win and were going to be hosting in the Budweiser Event Center...But lets take it one game at a time! Beat Portland State on Fri! Go Bears!
