New Transfer QB ?

Just as I suspected and mentioned in an earlier post, BSU QB Ryan Finley will finish his course work in May and will be transferring to another school. Let's really hope that he decides to come to ISU, because we could use a real good QB of his caliber.

Having seen him play I think he's a lot better than anyone that we have now. But knowing our fate he'll probably just end up at another Big Sky school; he's already burned his redshirt year. Actually he'll graduate in May so he could transfer right away to another FBS school.

Let's talk about Finley for a minute. He had a massive uphill battle to get back his starting position. He started 3 games last year, Washington, BYU and Idaho State. He broke his ankle early in the ISU game. He had surgery and is now just getting back to playing form. He probably could receive a medical red shirt, if that's possible with him already having a red shirt year. If he gets the extra year, he has 3 years of eligibility left.

He's a mobile QB and can throw bullets down field. I'm not sure he makes the best decisions though. I believe in those games, he had 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. I really think many do not give him credit for what he faced. In games that he started, BSU ended up 2-1. His first game with any real playing time was also his first start against Washington and he had a very serviceable game. Next was the BYU mess. Again, he was serviceable with nothing great, but the defense gave that game away on what, 3 incredibly poorly executed defensive plays. Then there were the few plays in the ISU game before getting hurt. The first 2 games would be tough for anyone's career. He was just okay. No disrespect intended but many fans thought that the ISU game would be a confidence builder, the shot in the arm to get him comfortable for the remaining season.

All in all, I think Ryan will be playing somewhere this fall, whether it's FCS or FBS. I believe he would be a nice addition to Idaho State. However, something tells me he may want to be closer to home, the Phoenix area. I wish him the best of luck where ever he lands. He seems to be a good kid.

He has at least two years of eligibility and maybe a third if he gets a hardship for last season. I would expect he'd be a pretty desirable player at the FBS level still, particularly since he's immediately eligible and has some experience as a starter.

No way will Kramer go after a new transfer QB during the summer months as he said Gueller will be his starting QB going into Fall Ball. Kramer said that after the loss to Weber State and has had high praise for Gueller during Spring Ball. Gueller did not play very well yesterday during the last practice game but that may have been due to three missing OL players unavailable and weather conditions.

On the same note, I still think it was a mistake by Kramer announcing to the media after the Weber State game that Gueller would be the starting QB over Michael Sanders going into Fall Ball. He should have kept quiet and let them battle it out during the Spring and Fall. Now, we only have a redshirt freshmen as a backup to Gueller. As you know, Sanders transferred to Henderson State. He went 17 -22 for 133 yards to end their Spring Ball. I think he is happy knowing he will be the starting QB for a team that made it to the second round of the playoffs last season.

That was a total mistake on Kramers part by announcing the starter during a post game interview! Kramer has no filter or problem backing the bus up. Even yesterday he backs the bus up on his coaches?? I think that's pretty unprofessional. Kramer said the play calling was horrible.. Take ownership Mike Kramer

Kramer has done everything possible to improve the program socially, academically, and is very proud that most of his players have graduated or on schedule to graduate on time. I do agree with you that Kramer needs to take accountability for his messages to the media as he did recruit and sign all of his players and did hire all of his coaches.

If the play calling was horrible? He must have been calling the plays. Maybe they returned a punt or something crazy like that. ;)

Lol b humble. Return punts? No way.. Our offense will drive it down the field and score a TD. We tell our full scholarship punt return specialists to only raise their arm in the air for a fair catch and ask them not to fumble when catching the ball. Catching the ball without a fair catch and running for some extra yards or a TD is not normal football for us. But hey, things could change if Kramer gives the punt return specialist the green light this season but I doubt it as we have not seen that happen since our All American in Tavoy Moore. If you remember, Tavoy had a few fumbles so Kramer replaced him and that was the end to our All American and the end to returning punts.
