New Transfers

It looks like Sac State has added former Nebraska Safety Dijon Washington to the roster.

Cornerback Christopher Lopes the UConn Transfer is now OFFICIALLY added to the roster as well.

Two great pick ups! We may have the best defensive backfield in the conference with Odiase & McMahon returning too!

Sperbeck is doing a great job picking up FBS transfers to make an immediate impact. Hopefully we get a couple more surprises.

I see that Jared Koster is now listed as a UCLA transfer at linebacker. Anyone know anything about that? Thanks

WOW!!!! This is huge!!! He will have three years to play! I can't wait to see this guy play this yr. He may beat out Jeff Badger or Todd Davis or maybe even play the nickel. Sperbeck is doing one hell of a job!

I'm not surprised Sac St landed a UCLA xfer. Those who don't fit Mora's system are leaving. I think this might he his third, possibly fourth, to bounce somewhere else. I was dismayed that Sperbeck or MacIntyre (SJSU) didn't go after the first player who decided to leave Mora's bruins, QB Nick Crissman-

Did Angus have anything to do with hooking this up?

Why is sperbeck just now getting all these transfers? Did he not seek them out prior to this year?

You take them when they're available, Termite. To do otherwise is considered "tampering," and that is a HIGHLY frowned upon practice, whether we're speaking of the NFL or the NCAA.

From what I can recall he has always landed some FBS drop downs over the years. This offseason just seems to have brought in a lot more than usual. Maybe in the past he has chased these dropdowns but wasn’t able to land them.

Sperbeck is in the hot seat right now after posting a 24–32 record as a head coach. I am sure he smartened up and took a look at what the FBS transfers that wen to Montana, Montana State, & Eastern Washington did in their time there.

Sperbeck is on the hot seat? Are you kidding me? That overall record is SERIOUSLY skewed by his first year, when he dealt with the dregs of the bogus Mooshagian regime. He IMMEDIATELY doubled the win total the next year, though the team sort of plateaued there. Last year might be seen as a bit of a step back, but there were injuries involved. A few of those losses would have flipped the other way were it not for that.

And did you bother to look at the composition of those games, Big? There are a LOT of games against FBS teams and FCS RANKED teams. For example, in 2011, we had not only a FBS win, but a B(C)$ win, beat the #10 team in the country, lost to #4, and it took OT for the defending national champions to beat us. Is there no honor in that? Or how about 2010, where we beat #21 AND #25 ON THE ROAD, and lost to #14, #8, and #10 in OT? In 2009, we beat #21 and lost to #12, #19, #15, and #2. In 2008, we lost to #24 and #8, and only lost our FBS game by 3. And even in that Mooshagian-influenced debacle of 2007, we had losses to #20 and the #1 team in the country.

Yes, it's time to make a move. But the hot seat? Not a chance. We're moving in the right direction. No, we're not there yet. But we're on the right road.

I agree with bigsac that Sperbeck is on the hot seat. However at a minimum he will be here for the full length of his contract and I am not sure when that ends.

SH: you bring up several very valid points but I think we need to define our terms. By "hot seat" I dont think anyone is suggesting that Sperbeck's departure is imminent. I think what it means is that after last season fans and administrators are taking a long hard look at where this program is going. Wanless stated as much during an interview at the end of the season and used the word "disappointed" - if your boss is "disappointed" with your performance, you may not be on the hot seat, but you are no longer secure. At the end of the day, "hot seat" means that Sperbeck better go over .500 or he is not coming back for 2013.

Hot seat? No. Warm seat, yeah flatulence will warm it up a bit. And there were some stinkers last season. But overall, most of the hornets losses were close. I don't blame Sperbeck nor the staff, they lost the OC to SJSU late. After this season, if it's a nightmare season, 2013 will be the hot seat season. It appears that he his staff are doing a good job of rebounding FBS bounce backs.

 Great analogy. :notworthy:

If Sperbeck is not over .600 this year then he is out! There is a reason why why have so many new transfers coming in. This isn't usually Sperbeck's way of doing things. He is scrambling for questions and is doing it the right way. I wouldn't be surprised if we got two or three more transfers.

I don't beleive there is a magic win number or % that determines whether he will stay or go. From meetings with Dr Wanless I got the feeling he brought coach Sperbeck in for a few reasons.

1 - To right the APR ship...Sac was towards the bottom and already facing scholly reductions when he came in. These types of limitations puts a limit on the kids you can bring in. I am impressed with this one being accomplished as quickly as it was,

2 - To help provide stability and build the program - I think we can all agree that the product is growing and though not as fast as some would like it is still moving forward. Also, local guy with roots helps to keep local interest.

3 - Win...this is still a work in progress. I think they are bringing in the right players and coaches..it may be another year or two before the full benefits will be seen.

OG67 Out!!!

I agree with all you said except this. The new PSU coach didnt wait a decade to provide a winning season and I dont mean 6-5. PSU had to pick everything up from the Glanville experiment and was lower than when Sperbeck took over Sac.

Good points OG67 but I also agree with GCM. The time to see results on the field is long past due.
