August 14th Unveiling

I bet, I just bet, they are not just green. Like the rest of us non-insiders, I have not seen them yet. But from the evidence I've seen, I believe we are also bringing back Silver to the color scheme. I predict we're gonna look a lot like (but distinct from) Hawai'i.

One clue is Coach Burton's polo shirt on the front page of the sports section. At first, I thought it was a complementary grey that you see in a lot of college sports apparel. But now, I believe it will be an offical color in addition to green, a greyish-silver, darker than at UH.

Green for Portland's richness in tree and plantage chlorophyll. Silver for the silver-lining in the clouds overcast high above us. White for virtue, the program's accountability and integrity (not snow--the snow is 100 miles away and is relatively rare in Portland). If Black remains part of the color scheme, it will likely stand for strength and power.

I've seen the helmets, they are black with the viking logo seen on this site. Haven't seen the uniforms yet, but I've talked to someone who has and was told the design is similar to what Miami (the U) currently wears, but with viking colors, lots of green.

Those were the helmets on the football posters that came out earlier, right?

Lots of green? Nice!

Looks like Black will be retained---most probably in the helmets and as a pants option. Maybe even as a black-jersey option. So, yes, the football uniforms at Portland State will very likely be retaining Black in the color scheme.

Whether the resulting PSU-apparel of coaches, players and stakeholders is regarded severally (man-in-black) or collectively (men-in-black), this appearance-remnant of Portland State's (transmutational) tradition will almost-surely be retained. So, yes, I would bet that the "man-in-black" look will be kept but in optionally-varying measures (from helmets-only to All-Black). Portland State, in my estimation, will continue to honor the look and symbolism it projects.

There's something off with these unis. To me, neither of the jerseys seem to go with the pants. The whole setup seems a bit disjointed. I also don't like having the team name on the back instead of last names or nothing at all. Still an improvement over last year, though.

PSU football's new uniforms for fresh start

I like the combo schemes that we can put together. The shape of the numbers seems a little off, but I like the outline so that it's easy to determine the number of the player (i.g. black on green). I'm not so sure about the team name on the back, but from what I've read, that may be the trend (especially from Nike). I'd like to see either green and white, or white and white on the road. The black and white I'd rather forget (even though it has green accents). Green on green with black lids, I hope we see that at the home opener.

Regardless, it's a welcome change.
