New University President: Robert S. Nelsen

The one thing I like about this guy is his energy and his passion for the school and he wants to carry that through out the university. He seems like a type of guy that can lead and people will get behind him...who knows he might just be the guy to wake this sleeping giant.

Nelson is on record saying he won't increase student fees for an event center until 1/2 of the funds ($50M)are raised through donations, borrowing, state $$, etc.

Good because that is how it should be done. That was the arrangement going back to the 2004 student approval; problem was always finding that privately funded amount.

22:40 mark Nelsen talks about added staff for athletics: 2 NCAA compliance/reporting staff, 1 trainer, and some gift officers to staff/help with his capital campaign along with a $100K budget to fund the capital campaign efforts.

54:44 mark he talks about his fund raising efforts.

He also talked about incentivizing and offering more summer courses. This should especially help student-athletes with their schedules and getting their degrees on time (and hopefully reduce the need for 5th year scholarships).

Also sounds like the new science building is a go and an announcement will be made next month. That building has been on the list for state funding for over a decade.

This President is a big time Hornet

Encouraged by so much he had to say.

Lots of passion and drive and sounds like he is working his butt off for a university that has now hit the 30,000 enrollment mark.

Hope he brings a lot of people to the Terrace at Hornet Stadium this coming Saturday and his first Hornet football game against Eastern Oregon, 40-208 losers yesterday to the College of Idaho.

at 6,000 J Street!! The alumni is a huge and rich resource that is ready and waiting for a President who wants to be part of it all.

Trust President nelson and Jody will enjoy their first Causeway Classic this Saturday and become fully absorbed into the importance and tradition of this annual rivalry and the only rivalry that truly exists in Sac State sports.

Watched President Nelson preside over one of 6 graduations at Sleep Train Arena yesterday in front of 13,500 people watching a fraction of the 4,939 graduates of the class of 2016.

Would never know that this guy is a first year president.

He was crying half the time.

He had all the graduates stand up and raise their hands with the Stingers up (pinky raised) and told them all that they where now Hornets for life. And he had all the alum stand up and it was mentioned that Sac State now has 224,000 alum. That is a ton of alum from a 69 year old university.

President Nelson has so embrace Sac State and he is the man to get things done big time at 6,000 J Street/.
And he is a big time Hornet!!

He let everyone know that that this was Hornet Nation and the the Hornets were number one.


Think that we have a great President at the helm

Have never seen another President like him so passionate about Sacramento State and so big on building pride and tradition.

Loved seeing President Nelson presiding over his first class of 4,949 Sac State graduates at Sleep Train. It was one of 6such events at Sleep Train as there was so many students graduating that there needed to be many such events. And the place was packed with 13,000 people with many turned away for this one of 6 ceremonies It was full on Sac state Pride and Stingers Up!!. This President is the real deal. He loves his school, he loves Sac State. Great to see a big time Hornet at the helm.
