Should shake up the BSC this Fall.

Brutal timing. Nothing worse than leaving after spring camp and totally abandoning the players he recruited to WSU. JL Smith was a WSU alum, just goes to show what coaches will do for a bigger pay day. :ohno:

McBride steps in and they rally for a 14-0 season.

Bad timing for WSU. Smith had been there since December and approached Arkansas about the job, so he was never really committed to Weber. Will be interesting to see how this really effects the program being essentially leaderless for 4.5 months.

This is the ugly side of athletics. Really let his players, staff and school down.

He is 62 and this is a $700K raise for him. Gotta stash all you can get in the golden years, ya know.

Bet the Weber OC Hammer is kicking himself now for not looking more seriously at the Sac job.

Word on the street is Weber is going to just promote one the current assistant coaches, there is a good possibility that Hammer is the next head coach at Weber State

Congratulations to him. Anyone of us would have taken the raise in the paycheck.

Not in the shameless and selfish way in which he did it. He arrived at Weber St saying, I will save the day! I LOVE my Alma Mater! etc. etc. etc. Yet, he initiated the move to LaFayette. He contacted Arky's AD and not the other way around. If it had been the other way around, people would be wishing him well.

He should. Arky AD Long has gone on record saying JLS will only serve as interim. He intends to make permanent hire after the 2012 season. JLS better have retirement in mind after this season b/c it appears he burned all his bridges with this shady move. If he doesn't retire, I think it's safe to presume he's doomed to be AC for the remainder of his career.

This. It’s one thing to be swooped up during the regular coaching change season by a bigger name for a bigger payday, it's another to actively look for a new job after spring camp after swearing allegiance to your alma mater.

Word on the street is Weber is going to just promote one the current assistant coaches, there is a good possibility that Hammer is the next head coach at Weber State

While that is a good possibility, I would not be surprised in the least to see Weber grab North Texas OC Mike Canales. I think he's interviewed there before, and he did a great job as UNT interim head coach after the previous guy was canned. The fact that one of the quarterbacks was the ousted coach's son made the job even more impressive.

They are going to either have one of the current assistants do it or bring back Mac. Plain and simple. So dont be surprised when your boy isn't picked :coffee:

Coachingsearch.com has a posting stating that sources have informed them that they are looking UTEP's OC, Aaron Price. He's a Wash St alum, so he might have some NW connections. But SuperHornet's posting makes more sense. Mike Canales played ball at Utah St. Coached at BYU and Snow College. Plus, he has a more extensive resume.
