Next Up, NAU

Jay Hill needs to look at what he does on the bye week his teams have played horribly coming off the bye week. The offense is horrible no continuity and keep shuffling QBS is a terrible idea Schramm needs to pick one and stick with it and not Jenks he is terrible.

This offensive scheme is awful. There were so many times a play action could have opened things up. I think we all knew the QB play would drop off a bit with Cantwell leaving, but not this much. QBs seem to have digressed. You have to have a good QB in the Big Sky to win.

I see maybe two possible chances at a win left on the schedule because the Big Sky is tough: maybe Montana State and maybe SUU.

They need to keep looking at recruiting a good QB and see if they expand the playbook past the six Techmo Bowl plays on offense.

Pray for rain next Saturday!

Greetings, Wildcat fans.

I attended the game last night while up in N. Arizona for a hike. I've always liked chatting with your hoops fans and your football fans are just as warm and welcoming.

A fun but sloppy game on both sides. NAU won because they made one or two more plays at the end. I like my Jacks but I'm not confident that they're a playoff contender this season. Weber State is better than the day showed as well. In regards to your remaining schedule, EWU and ISU will be tough but the rest of the games look winnable.

Best of luck.

Hi MT Jack,

First, congrats on the win. Unfortunately for both of us, I don’t think our teams are making the playoffs. EWU, UC Davis, and Idaho State look tough! Weber State’s offense is so poor, they are not going to pull away in any game. The defense is good. The special teams are good, too, but they can only do so much.

I haven’t seen NAU’s schedule to know what’s left, but EWU and Idaho State don’t play. The conference is too big to decide things on the field. Good luck the rest of the way!

My .02

This was a frustrating game to watch. So many mistakes.

Offense - F
Honestly, this is mostly on the coaching staff. No more excuses. Pick one QB and stick with it. If we need to simplify the gameplan then do it. Highly concerned that we cant find even a simple passing attack. We ran the ball relatively well, but then stopped running when we needed to. Zero sustained drives, way too many 3 and outs. 3 of 18 on 3rd down. Multiple 3rd and 20s. Shaheed was being covered man to man in a press coverage with no safety help over the top for most of the game. We missed on a couple attempts, but didn't exploit that once.

Defense - A minus
Amazing game from the defense. A few long plays and missed tackles, but in general they prevented this from being a blowout win for NAU. Can't ask for much better than 6 takeaways. Had the inadvertent whistle not stopped the first interception return, this might have been a Weber win. The targeting call on Toia will hurt next week.

Special teams - D
Punt returns are killing us. Catch the damn ball then find the seam.

Not sure what to expect from the team going forward.

WSUWildcat, you couldn't have said it better and I thoroughly agree with you. The QB play hasn't been this questionable in a decade. On Saturday I thought Jimmy Barnes was back. There are 7 QBs on our roster. If neither Jenks or Constantine know how to lead an offense, it is time to look at one of the other 5. Both great kids, but neither are getting the job done.

Offense lost that game plain and simple. It was frustrating and painful to watch. Hill told us at the beginning of the season our WR group was the strength of the team. Unfortunately, there is not a QB on the team to thrown them the ball. The 3 and outs and horrendous third down conversion ratio is beckoning for change. The most disgusting part of that game was the fact out defense forces a three and out with 90 seconds remaining in the game, and we get the ball back, one timeout remaining, and we can't even get a single first down on the last drive of the game??!?! ISU runs for like 300 yards on NAU and we run for 61 yards??? There needs to be some serious shakeups going into this week. The offensive game plan was been terrible since game one.

After a bye week and wearing the black/white combo. For the second time in as many years, our Cats laid an egg. Doesn't seem like a winning scenario to me. Yet, I really wasn't confident the Cats would end up with a W after NAU's curb-stomping in Poky. NAU knew they needed a win, much like we now need a win. After the loss, I started looking at the schedule to see how many possible wins the Cats could get. Beating Eastern is around 30%. Homecoming, coming off a loss, and playing at home gives us another 10%. MSU is around 60% (home team gets the edge), UND -- toss up, SAC, if the weather is bad 75%, if not, 60% (like the MSU games, home team gets the edge). SUU 60% (T-Birds would love nothing more than to upset our chances), and against ISU, right now, we are major underdogs. Weber has to get Four wins to be in a position to get an at large bid. Of course, five would be better. Meaning Weber has to protect its home field and get a win, or two, on the road. Against NAU, we can't really blame the team. The boys really fought but just came up short. Gotta wonder if the refs wouldn't have screwed up on the Collins pick, what the final score would have been. The Big Sky should censure that crew. But, it is what it is. Gotta take the good with the bad. On offense, I think both QBs are trying too hard. They are trying to beat the other and aren't really competing against opposing teams, but merely trying to outplay the other guy. This isn't a good situation. Neither has shown leadership, poise, the ability to manage a drive, or read a defense. Without a competent QB, the offense, no matter how talented, will only be okay. Final thought, the play calling has been very vanilla and too predictable. That is on the OC. We know Schramm knows his stuff and I still have faith in him, but he has to let up a bit. He is holding on waaaay too tight right now. He needs to remember to have some fun and enjoy where he is now. Thats my observation anyway.
