davis barely lost to Montana. And Montana barely beat W. Washington a DII school.
We weren't even competitive, except for a few individual performances.
As I understand it Montana had a lot of new players at the start of the season. Sort of a rebuilding year for them, at least by thier standards. Many thought that they would be blown out at Cal Poly.
Montana was kind of shakey early but for the last two weeks, they have started to look like Montana again.
It's not so much who you play, it's also when you play them. If Montana could belong to two leagues they are already the Champion of the Great West having beaten Poly, Davis and Southern Utah, while they are third in the Big Sky. You have to remember Weber State or Northern Arizona have not lost to any FCS teams and Montana has only lost to Weber, and we lost to Weber by 5. We need to keep this all in perspective, there will be those games that we will take a step backwards especially with a starting lineup full of frosh and sophs. Looking at the rest of the schedule I see Eastern Washington as the toughest team left dispite thier record they have the most talent and experience. How we respond against Montana State will say a lot about the rest of the season. Talent wise I think that we are pretty even with the Bobcats and they have lost two in a row also. If can get our act back together and win against MSU I think that we have a good shot at upsetting EWU in Cheney. I think that we have more overall talent than Davis. I don't think that they will be able to run much on us, while I think our ground attack will wear them down like it did against Portland State. In the air I think that Smith handles pressure better than thier young QB Denham who has made some poor decisions when under pressure.
While our young secondary has had some problems, the Davis secondary has been burned all season. I think Smith, Washington and crew should have a good day. We should be favored in the last two games,
although NCU is far better than thier record and ISU might be winless at that point and hungry for a win at home so both of these teams could be dangerous. Lets hope that the Hornets stay healthly the rest of the way, and can get back on track against MSU. I hope everyone comes out Saturday!
