Chris has announced on Facebook that UM has in fact received the expected invite from the WAC and will decide by next week whether or not to accept it. MSU did NOT receive an invite.

Who is Chris and why should we believe what it says on facebook?

I personally don't care what Montana does. From what I have read on other boards the WAC in their desperation may have agreed to allow Montana to play at Montana State which is a priority to both schools. Currently the WAC does not allow it's members to play at a FCS school. I still think that Montana with their limited instate talent base would be at a major disadvantage to recruit competitive FBS talent compared to the Texas schools etc. Some of their fans think they will be the new Boise State, I think it will be more likely for them to become the new Wyoming.

Chris Lynn owns and operates Missoula Media, which is the outfit that runs eGriz, BigSkyFans.com (which graciously provides the server space for SacBuzz), and ChampionshipSubdivision.com. Chris is almost literally synonymous with UM sports.

Since I dont follow UM sports, thanks for the explanation.

Mazzola doesnt have the corporate base that Boyz provides. Without the school the town would be tumbleweed. It would be nice to see them go and watch them have 2-9 seasons though.

Not unexpected. I don't think they'll take the offer, but if they do, whatever. Life goes on with or without Montana (contrary to what many Griz fans think).

I have a feeling they won't take it either. If the WAC publicly invited them or any FCS school and were turned down it would make the WAC look like more of a joke than they are now.

Not so sure about that, GL. The Pac-10 got publically dissed on an invite not too long ago.

superwhorenut is likely jumping the gun

Officials at the University of Montana said Wednesday they'll announce within the next week whether Montana will join the Western Athletic Conference. But sources tell Q2 Sports it likely won't happen.

I didn't say they were gone, 2506. I said they had invite in hand. I did NOT say they accepted it. If you're gonna say I jumped the gun, you'd better be prepared to say that both Chris Lynn and the Missoulian jumped it as well, because those are my sources. I haven't heard ANYONE on these boards impeaching Chris' integrity.

Learn to read before you open your mouth, 2506. That's the difference between you and Ursus. Ursus at least does his homework before he smacks me.

Never did see a report that they had an official invite. It just said they were waiting on um's decision.

Intersting day for the WAC. UTSA and Texas State join, (Denver announcing they are joining in a little bit), the school they really wanted declines, and word from Hawaii is the Warriors are talking to the MWC for football only and Big West for all other sports. truly WACy

If Hawaii really does leave, is it because of the addition of more southwest schools? This is why I thought they should have pushed for us, but now I'm not sure if its a place we particularly want to go at the moment.

That's the quandry in a nutshell.

It would seem (on the surface) that Sac in the WAC would be a no-brainer (given that we're already associate members). But looking below the surface at all the shifting around now and in the future, not to mention how spread out it is now, makes it clear that we're in the best possible position right now. Once could make a claim for Sky football-associate and BWC for everything else, but relegating our other sports to the CBL is a bad move in that it reduces our profile. We have a nice regional outlook in the Sky (if one ignores UND) that we just cant get in the CBL under current leadership (or lack thereof).

I disagree. There is absolutely no regional profile for the BSC aside from FCS football. It’s safe to say the BSC and Big West are on close to equal terms wrt hoops RPI. Yeah WSU had a huge win over the real UNC a decade ago, but aside from that there is nothing that screams the BSC is a great hoops conference. The MWC, WCC, and even the WAC far out shine the BSC and BW on a regional "mid-major" level. Therefore it only makes sense to advocate for BSC football only association and make a run for BW for everything else.

Also with UTSA and TX State going WAC, the baseball program now has the pleasure of traveling to TX and Louisiana twice every other year. I am sure that will do wonders on the travel budget. And if Hawaii or anyone else leaves the WAC, that conference is done and baseball will need to find a home. The reasons to bail on the BSC for all sports other than football continues to grow by the day.
