Next year

Next year will be a transition year for the Viks but I for one don't think there will be much of a dropoff. We do lose a lot but there still is a bunch returning. Woods will be back and will be looked upon as a leader based on his play this year. Strickland and Mayhew both will return as well, two solid contributors this year. Derek Brown came on strong late in the year so I imagine he will be eager to pick up where he left off. Size may be an issue, but Orme had some strong play and should be better. We also will get a healthy (hopefully) Rumel back, too. And the peculiar situation with Tucker, if the NCAA does grant him an extra year, that would be a strong bonus for us.

Peery also got a good look at the conference as well, and knows that the hicks here don't care if you played Duke tough one game. That gives them extra motivation to put PSU in their place. Also, the conference knows that Peery's team will never give up and will fight you, even if they are down 20 late. I like the idea of pressing, but in this conference, games are played at altitude so Peery needs to be prepared to maybe going 12 deep on the roster to keep players fresh and keep his press fast and exciting.

Overall, I am disappointed at how this season turned out, but I was glad at the effort the team showed after North left. Next year will be fun to watch, for sure. :thumb:

Size may be an issue, but I think it'll be interesting to see how Rumel looks next season. His only meaningful minutes were against Willamette and Portland Bible, so it's hard to tell how he would have looked later in the season against D1 programs. His injury this season was really unfortunate in his development. We do have two 6'9" freshman coming in. Who knows if either of them won't redshirt, but we also have that 6'7" transfer as well.

I think in hindsight, I'm not really disappointed with this season. Less injuries and North playing the entire season, and we're likely headed down to a selection sunday party tomorrow. The post game presser from the EWU game speaks volumes in my mind. First year coach with a couple of seniors crying tells me that Peery was able to win over guys that had been in the program for a while. Not easy to do.

Isn't Shamar Bailey a transfer in?

I misunderstood, I thought you were talking about a mid-year transfer. Yes, Shamar Bailey. He was rated #62 on the 2018 Junior College Basketball Top 100 Player Rankings. But I think the Viks still need to add a few more "bigs" for next year if they have any more scholarships left:
