Next Years Team

I know this is really early, and that we need to be focused on this years team (Totally Amazing, by the way, definitely a team that will be remembered in Weber State lore); however, I think Weber is on the cusp of establishing a dynasty the likes of which haven't been seen at Weber since the late 70s and 60s. Granted, there were great teams after the Collins/Mattos era, but nothing as dominant and long lasting. The key is, obviously, Rahe, and the players. Look at the players Weber will have for the next few years, and with a little lucky, the players Weber could possibly pick up in the upcoming years. The second key to establishing a dynasty is that the team will be deep and full of talented players who will only get better under the Wizards tutelage. The third key, is continuing to recruit players who will buy into the program and are willing to learn and be molded. Its great to get really talented kids, but the key to recruitment is getting kids who have talent, but also understand the importance of playing as a team. Team Chemistry is the fourth key...

Next Seasons line up and depth:

Point Guard: Lillard, Dent, Benson, and Cottle...
Shooting Guard: Hughey, Pablo Coro (Freshmen who will see plenty of time next season), Blake Davis (might be red-shirted). Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Dent played a little at the two.
Forward: Hansen, JC Wing, Jake Orchard (most of the Cats who play the 2 can also play the 3 and vice versa. Bullinger can also play the 3)
Power Forward: Bullinger, Washington, Ramos (I wouldn't doubt seeing Washington play the 5. Mahoney will be used at both the 4 and 5. I heard from him that he is going to really work on his shot and offense over the summer).
Center: Panos, Morris, Mahoney, Byron Fulton (I could see Fulton being red-shirted)

Pelo, Stroud, and Larson are all going to be on their missions. I will totally miss McCoy and Davis, you can't find better people and players... I'm sure coach will have a couple of local guys on the team as red-shirts.

Next season there will be more new players than returning players... Hopefully this wont ruin the chemistry that exists amongst the team, but who knows.

Orchard isn't coming back to Weber. He is going to, or already has, walked on the Utah football team. Good luck to Jake. I think the coaches were waiting on Jake to ensure Dee a spot. I've heard that Dee is a great pick up for the Cats. Its amamzing that he didn't get any other DI offers.

I overheard a conversation at the Gym between Talhad and Dave Patten today. Patten was telling tal about the new players. Patten said that Rahe did a great job recruiting, while simultaneously staying under the radar. Nobody really knows how good our recruits are. The conversation centered upon Session, Patten highlighted Session as being the best recruit in this years class. He, Patten, said that Session is way to good for the Big Sky, that he is a definite step above our normal recruit, and couldn't believe that Weber was able to get him. Patten said that Session is as athletic as Boyette and can play the lanes as good or better than D-Will (he will surely be missed). Session, in Pattens opinion, probably should be playing at a bigger school, in a bigger league. That says something about Weber State: GREAT COACH, TRADITION, FACILITIES, and ACADEMICS. Now we all need to help restore the dominance of the PURPLE PALACE by filling that place up. The last and best part of the equation: FANS

This is true. I was talking to Patten at the Swenson on Sat, and he told me that Session is probably one of the biggest pick-ups for the Cats in a while (Damian is by far the best that Weber has had since the Thrill and the Show). He said that Session is far to good to be playing in Ogden. He didn't know why Session is here, he thinks the California schools definitely dropped the ball on this kid, and didn't commit until it was to late. No matter, Session is a smart guy. He knows why he is here. He wants to win, develop, and go to the NCAA's.
Patten, also, talked about the other recruits and said that Weber will be far deeper this season than at any other time in the Wizards tenure. He said he was really impressed by the recruits. They are all really good, and could have each gone to a bigger school. The only things he worries about is chemistry and youth.

So who is the best new player? I've now heard that Session, Hughey, and Washington are the best newcomer to the Wildcat program. If each of these kids are as good as they are being billed I think the Cats will be really tough to beat. To keep it balanced, I think I'm going to go with Nobel, Davis, or Fulton. I'm really pulling for Crandell. He is kinda rough, and needs some development, but I think he will have a great career for the Cats as long as he works hard and follows the coaches.
