His first professional start is against Calgary tonight. You can catch it streaming on ESPN3 at 7:00 PST. Kid has worked his ass off and deserves this. Light it up Matt!

CALGARY – This week, Bo Levi Mitchell has been taking breaks from the us-against-the-world mentality of football.

The backup quarterback for the Calgary Stampeders has followed the news out of the Edmonton Eskimos camp regarding its starting quarterback. When he heard on Thursday morning that his good friend Matt Nichols would in fact be starting on Friday night at McMahon Stadium, he smiled.

“I’m absolutely happy for him,” said Mitchell, an Eastern Washington University football alumnus, like Nichols.

“Obviously, I want him to do great in the game, but at the same time, you know, we’re playing him. It’s one of those good and bad situations. You always want to see your fellow guy do good. When it comes down to it, you’re kind of enemies for the next couple of hours.

“I wish the best to him and he’s going to go out there and play great, because that’s why he’s in that position.”

Jon Cornish ran for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns on 20 carries, lifting the Calgary Stampeders to a 39-15 win over the Edmonton Eskimos at McMahon Stadium Friday night.

Nichols finished the game 14 of 26 for 167 with 1 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also added one rushing touchdown.

Glenn would hand the rest of the game over to Bo-Levi Mitchell after completing 21 of 28 passes for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns. Drew Tate, Calgary's starter at the start of the season, also dressed for his first contest since injuring his non-throwing shoulder but did not see any action.

Making matters worse for Edmonton was losing star linebacker JC Sherritt, who left the game with an injury.
