Nicole Jackson to leave PSU

Nicole Jackson is transferring to Seattle U for Winter term. She has been awarded a scholarship in Seattle and we all wish her the best. She was a heck of a teammate and the ladies will miss her both on and off the court.

Lame to see her leave, but I wish her the best.

Wanted to be closer to home?

She didn't play much and didn't do much when she did play. We have some pretty good guards in front of her and she knew it. I'd guess playing time was the issue. I'm surprised Seattle gave her a scholarship - she hasn't shown much here.

I think there is a lesson in all this. Recruiting is most naturally stable when you recruit locally. Player can become homesick, especially during the holidays. Think Oregon City HS, Central Catholic, etc. Build PSU into a local favorite with the kind of quality teams we are starting to see now under Coach Murrell.

Uhm what about Hawai'i and the kids from WA...they seem to be holding up. I think it's more a need on the player's part to look at who is ahead of you in the line up ane/or being versatile enough to play multiple positions and/or being allowed to play multiple positions (Center not included!!); regardless, as I said before, we wish her the best and know she will be missed.

If we had a sports arena and not a tired old gym, I bet we could recruit at least 60% locally. It's relatively rare that players do get homesick, but for those that do it seems to hit pretty hard. Usually, it is our local talent who go somewhere else (not great) who tend to pine for Portland. I think we need more emphasis on gathering up local talent. That way, we have a secure nucleus. Sherri probably picked up a few lessons through this real-life episode. Maybe she does need to apply more flexibility with multiple positions as you illustrated.

yes a real sports venue would be good, I've seen nicer high school gyms; but really it's all about the "Win's" isn't it??!! GO VIKS!!
