Weber can't sleep on ND. Although 6-12 overall and 2-5 in the conference, North Dakota has wins over Montana State and Idaho in Idaho.

We have 10 conference games left before the tourney and a chance to build upon a strong performance against Sac St. Going to be on the road for the next 3 games with ND, UNC and Idaho St. on the schedule.

Would be nice to right the ship with 3 wins!

Its a different attitude than previous years. Every game is war and coming out of the next 3 games with two wins will be an accomplishment.

I hate looking at next year, but adding Jefferson, Braxton and maybe a couple of the incoming freshman puts this team on a great path. It should also allow Weber to finally figure out how to utilize players off the bench.

The major question is what will Rahe learn from this year? If the starting line up is the same next year, then we know that he hasn't learned a lot. Its important to get players in the right position and allow them to play instinctively. We will still be young with the only Seniors being Joel, Golden and Coston.

My guess is that one of those 3 are not back next year. I hope that the guys can come together and keep going. Rahe can't lose the team. I worry that may happen if we lose a few more games in a row.

We are going to see a different team next year. Players coming back and going on missions, freshman coming in and redshirts becoming eligible..... 2-3 players might not be coming back next season.

I don't think Rahe is going to take the results of this year very well! Every position will be up for grabs! We have 15 scholarships currently committed to next year with the NCAA allowing 13.

I think some changes are coming. I think that's positive!

Weber really can't "sleep" on ANYONE! I hope they play with the same desire that they did vs Sac because it was missing the two previous games and a few others this season as well. Don't know what's going on inside their heads when they don't show up but it's frustrating to see scholarship athletes not giving everything they've got every time they step on the court.

I think the only teams that get out of town with a win the way Weber played Saturday, are legit conference contenders, playing a great game-- Sac was both. 10 to go and if the players want it enough to bring it each of those 10, there's no reason to believe they can't get in the tournament and become the team no one wants to play.

...and speaking of altitude, I've seen teams that have appeared to struggle with the thinner air at the DEC (including ECU a few seasons ago.) I didn't notice any signs with Sac's players. Maybe it's an easier excuse than reality for a properly conditioned athlete?

If it takes until March to get where we need to be, we can still grab a tournament spot on someone else's floor. It's happened to us, why not return the favor? This isn't football, as long as we stay in the top 8, the season is never lost until we give up or are eliminated. No need to start talking next year!

This game is not a gimmee. No games in the BSC are gimmees for us this year. We proved that at SUU. I suspect, and hope, that every game is going to be a fight to the very end. I don't think that our coaches or players are expecting anything else. :coffee:

The Cats have begun their journey to the tundra up north. The trip involves an airplane, a bus ride, a ferry, and a donkey ride on the final leg to Grand Forks. We get there about 5 minutes before game time and hope that the kids are aggravated enough about the trek to go out and kick some 'no name' butt.

If that isn't all enough, then they have to reverse the process and start making their way to BF, Colorado.

Ah....., Life on the road!

This is a very difficult road trip because of travel. I think it is in the best interest for the Cat that they get to face UND first and then travel to Greeley after. UNCO is a tough team to beat on their home floor. Weber is kinda in between a rock and a hard place. Weber needs wins. Let's see how our Cats play. Weber has to get a split. Yes, winning both would be the best option, but the Cats have to get that first win first.

Okay...UND starters are:

Carson Shanks C
Jaron Nash F
Estan Tyler G
Terrel de Rouen G
Quinton Hooker G

Many, including myself, had UND at the bottom of the standings this season. Brian Jones, after losing so much last year, probably knew this season would be a rebuilding year. It was really great that Jaron Nash was granted an additional season of eligibility and after Fall Semester ended Shanks became available. They aren't the best at shooting 3s, they are pretty lousy at the FT line, and are at the bottom in field goal defense. However, they do lead the conference in steals per game.

Watching last nights game pointed out me what our problem is.

We are playing like North Dakota this year:
Multiple guys playing out of position
Lots of good athletes but not necessarily basketball players
Individual focus rather than a team mentality

There are a few differences:
We do run plays different than high screen and roll
Our coach isn't the worst coach in the Big Sky

Multiple guys playing out of position

I'm still baffled by the "guys are playing out of position" position that I read on this forum. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 4 and 5 in Rahe's offense do the same thing, don't they?
When Bolomboy is on the floor with Hill, he plays on the low block, or comes out top to set an occasional screen at the top of the key. Which is the exact same thing Hill is doing. And then when Hajek comes in to replace Hill, Bolomboy still plays on the low block and comes out top occasionally to set a high screen.
So what's the difference if Bolomboy is "playing the 4" or "playing the 5"?

Why do you think it is all about Bolomboy? I guess he is part of the issue
But defensively the 4 and 5 are different and Joel plays better D as a 4.
Johnson Coston is not a 4
Senglin is better at the 2 than the 1
Hill looks lost regardless of the position he plays

Yes, the 4's and 5's do have similar roles. 4's do, however, get a little more time facing the basket and a little more time on the three point line. Hill is not playing out of position. He has proven that he is not ready to play exclusively on the wing. If Coston isn't a 4 then he isn't anything. He may be undersized to play on the low block, but his skill set doesn't allow him to play on the wing. It may be true that Senglin has struggled in the conversion to the point, but he has been much more comfortable with it lately. Bolomboy has always been a tweener. His back to the basket moves have improved quite a bit and he seems to be more comfortable in those situations. I think that we get the same production out of Joel in either position. He is not playing 'out of position', he is developing his versatility.

On the question of matching up with other teams or making them try to match up with us, seems to me like we are doing a little bit of both lately.

Also, it seems to me like we are changing up our defenses this year more than any other year under this coaching staff. Another big bitching point that some of us have had is the flash cards. I've noticed that they are not showing them while we are in transition this year. Sometimes, they are not flashing a play until 15 seconds into the shot clock. Some of us need to adjust what we bitch about. :twocents:

Our expectations for this team were really high. My feelings are that expectations should always be high. However, we are learning to temper that with a bit of understanding. This team reminds me of a toddler. They are learning fast, but they are learning in fits and spurts. Practice is great, but there is nothing like the real thing to teach you the true lessons. Talk is cheap. Life lessons can, sometimes, be costly. It's really how you react to it all that counts. It may seem like one step forward and one step back, but progress is being made.

This team is fun to watch and is getting better with each game. I'm encouraged for the rest of this season and for our future.

Respect your enthusiasm for the team, but bottom line is that this team has not lived up to its potential and has been a disappointment. Maybe next year will be better, but I have a hard time saying this squad is improving. Great win over ND, but we got punked again in the paint.

You can be a fan and still be upfront in your views. Getting tired of the we so young chants....... The team needs to get tough and start being accountable for its performance. That's how you get better. Bolomboy is a junior and Hill a redshirt Sophomore...... They have struggled all year and not come close to expectations.
