OK... so here we are, 5 - 3 which is exactly what I expected pre-season. (However, I thought we would beat Idaho State and lose to Idaho.). Anywho, the real “meat” of the season is now upon us. With Idaho’s throttling of Idaho State today, who knows? And WTF Sac State???
So, how do we close out? Bueller? Bueller?

Well, I think the schedule is not as tough. It seems the conference is very home-centric this year in that the home team is winning most of the games regardless of the matchups. Davis and EWU do not seem to be as tough as they were pre-season, which means Montana could be our only tough game left and we have that at home. We avoid Sac State, Weber and Montana State and all three could be playoff teams this year. We could be in a position where, with one more loss, we could be out of the playoff hunt which is hard to imagine at 8-4 with two non-DI wins and no wins against playoff teams.

This upcoming road game at NAU will be tough. 7200ft elevation, and an NFL caliber QB in Cookus. But we need the win, any way we can get it.

Cookus scares me a bit with the numbers he’s put up in conference play this season. I’d like to see us be able to grind out some good yards on the ground and keep the defense off of the field.

Regarding Sacramento State. They are definitely not a fluke when you look at conference stats. They get after the quarterback on defense, protect the quarterback on offense, and don’t commit many penalties. Winning recipe in my book.

What is encouraging about the NAU game is their defense allowed over 440 yards rushing against Weber, including one Weber back going for 328 (yes, 300+ yards in one game). Bring the oxygen, as I have a feeling Alexander and Hoffman may need it. Also the game is indoors so, even if Flag-town has a blizzard, it won't matter.

Viks are favored by 2.5 points in the betting line. That surprised me given how tough NAU is at home and that their only losses are to FBS and ranked FCS all on the road. If we can get this one this season may really be becoming something.

Homecoming of sorts for us as well there. Aaron Pflugrad (former Duck) is the offensive coordinator for NAU and his dad, Robin Pflugrad (former Vik) is associate assistant coach.

From the article it sounds like homecoming at NAU is a really big deal. I wish the PSU homecoming generated similar enthusiasm.

Baby steps, my friend. We'll get there. :thumb:

After that 1st quarter, we are not looking too bad. First NAU punt mid-3rd quarter. 28-17 NAU. We get a TD on this drive, things will start to get interesting.

What a horrendous ending to a game we should have won. Going empty set against a weak run defense, not challenging the bad spot on Alexander's scramble to the three and playing such a soft prevent victory defense giving away a game winning field goal. Barnum is a clown and will be gone after his contract is up...hopefully sooner rather than later. Here comes my street car...

Williams had a great game but he will be lamenting the 2 missed field goals. Also, the INT in the end zone at the end of the first half came back to haunt us as well. The bad spot at the end should have been reviewed but really, the game should not have come down to that.
