Do we have a shot? I really can't give up hope of still pulling this thing off, however unrealistic at this point. If we can pull one off tomorrow night, I still think we can win out at home, and ya never know win at Sac (since CatCat will be there), EWU, and ISU on the road.????????

I like your optimism. Like you, I think Weber still has a chance. You hit the nail on the head though; gotta win all the HOME games to have a chance, and win at least 3 of the road games, which is gonna be tough, but its doable.

The team looked good last night except for two areas, they lost focus for about 8mins in the second half, and also, they didn't do a very good job of rebounding (Mahoney's injury could be affecting that). One thing that is clear is that Bamforth and Hughey are recovering from their injuries nicely. If Weber pulls off a W tomorrow and again next week, That will put the Cats in a great position to maybe steal the conference, at very least, it will put them squarely back into contention.

Weber's got a tough task tomorrow beating UNC in Greeley. I've been to all 6 of the Bears' home games this year and, for some reason, they step up their defense to an unbelievable level at Butler-Hancock. UNC holds its opponents to 49.5 points per game, no one has scored 60, at home and have won all of their home games by at least 14 points.

Those numbers aren't artificially inflated against sub-D1 schools, either. Our three Big Sky opponents at home (UM, MSU, ISU) are averaging 46.7 PPG, shooting 31 percent from the floor and 15 percent from 3-point range.

I don't know what will happen in Ogden next week, but Weber will have to play very, very well to win tomorrow night.

Weber will have to do more than just play very well, they need a little luck to.

Although, I think it can be done

UNC is in the drivers seat to host the post season playoff tournement. It will be interesting to see if they would actually do it, if they win the championship. To host the school must pay the league a heafty sum. The money is usually made up in ticket sales and advertizing. If a school chooses not to host, it becomes open for bid. Montana or Montana State wouldn't even think about not hosting. UNC...., hmmmm...

I know for a fact that the AD would take def the hosting opportunity if UNC earned it. They have even talked about having it the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland to accommodate the huge attendance expected. Loveland is about 15 mins away from Greeley and right off of I-25, a main CO highway. They had discussed the stuff last year just in case and it never happened so it was just dropped. But UNC would def take a hosting opportunity, it would be the first such thing in this state in awhile. I hope for a good game tonight but as you all know UNC plays REALLY well at Butler. GO BEARS!

I've had conversations with folks in teh athletic department on this very subject. UNC reserves the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland every year on the days the tournament is scheduled. If we earn the right to host, that's where it will be played, I know that for 100% fact.

Why wouldn't they want to host??

If they win the conference title, of course the Bear would host.

As for the game. Wow, I haven't seen a Wildcat team look that bad since the 05-06 squad. Yes, the Bears are good, but come on, Weber did a great job of pissing down their legs and shooting themselves in the feet.

Funny, that's exactly what Montana fans said after they played us, and what Montana State fans said after they played us, and Idaho State fans, too. Wait a minute...I see a common denominator here!

TROLL

ISU fans?? Seriously?? YOu really are an idiot. They know their team sucks. They wouldn't make any excuses. MSU, their fans know that they have been over-achieving and got lucky with a couple of their W's. As for UM...sorry, but thats the best team in the conference. I've watched all the teams play, and personally, I think they are the best. I hate to say it but its true. The Bears...I like them. They play hard.

How am I trolling? You're the one calling people names.

I'm just saying that all I've heard this year is that UNC won games not because they played well, but because (insert team here) played poorly. I'd like to know how many teams are going to have to "play poorly" against UNC before it stops being a coincidence.

As for UM being the best team in the conference, I guess you're simply choosing to ignore the Bears' 63-45 win over the Griz, a game in which UNC never trailed and was never tied. Either that or you think that when two teams play, the better team generally loses by 20. Either way, I see a flaw in your logic.

GoBears in a previous message I said you could gloat if UNC won over Weber, and you have a perfect right to do so.
But trying to put logic to anything that happens in Big Sky action, or college basketball at all is a risky deal. (I love to look at KenPom to see the computer generated predictions and how things actually come out.)

Using the if/then, I could make a case this way: If Arizona beat UNC by 23, and BYU beat Arizona by 18, and Weber lost to BYU by only 6, then Weber should have knocked the tar out of UNC last night.....but it doesn't work that way. Injuries, illness, home court, mental attitude, they all apply.

It will be an interesting game next Saturday in Ogden to see how both teams play, having just gone at each other. If Weber plays more like the 2nd half at Greeley, and UNC's shots aren't falling (more like 2nd half) for the entire game, it will be a fun one to watch.

After watching that game, UNC deserves to be on top of the Sky. I hope that they keep up the good work and stay on top throughout the season. With the exception of next week, I hope they win out and host. With all of the injuries we have had this season, I just want to see us make the tournament. Our hardest part of the schedule is over now and I think we can start winning a few more games and finish the season strong. Our desire to keep getting better needs to continue on through the spring, summer, and into next fall.

I am truely happy for the Bears. They have come a long way in a few short years in the BSC. The people and businesses in and around UNC need to step to the plate and bring in a new arena for them.

Git 'R Dun UNC!!

Thanks. This is really uncharted waters for UNC basketball, the last time we started 7-0 in conference was 1936!

Good luck to Weber the rest of the year (well, after next week), and we'll hope to see you guys back here for the tourney.

No doubt UNC is on a great roll, and certainly their convincing win against Montana carries a lot of weight. But when considering the best team in the conference, I think you have to also take into account the nonconference schedule when you're comparing teams separated by only half a game. UM's nonconference results far exceed that of UNC. When you only have two DI nonconference wins, and the team a half a game behind you has that many nonconference wins against Pac 10 teams alone, coupled with the fact that UNC still has the Montana trip to go, I don't think it's safe to crown UNC the best team yet.

Thats what we have been trying to tell GoBears but he wont listen to us, UNC still has the toughest part of thier schedule ahead of them, road games vs the Montana's, ISU, WSU, and NAU. and with Montana right behind them UNC cant slip up.

Of course UM also still has to play at NAU, WSU and at MSU.

UNC is for real. we just got schooled by them, what else do we need to see? I know UNC overall record doesn't look good and they could go 15-1 and not even have a 20 win season but it is not like the bears are doing something we have never done.

isn't it better to be a 16 seed than not be in the tourney?

bears are 7-0, almost half way. if they go 3-1 in next 4 that is still 10-1 with 5 games left.

Jan 29 @ Weber State (Altitude) Ogden, UT 7:00 PM
Jan 31 @ Northern Arizona Flagstaff, AZ 6:30 PM
Feb 3 Eastern Washington Greeley, CO 7:00 PM
Feb 5 Portland State Greeley, CO 7:00 PM

we can beat the bears though. im glad we are finally home; 4 straight home games for us and would be sweet to see us end up 7-4. we gotta protect the home court. gotta get some wins.
