Northern Colorado Game

I still don't know what to think about UNC. They have had a tough schedule and lost to SUU on the road. I think that they are probably better than their record would indicate. However, they were terribly out rebounded by SUU and blew a 6 point lead with just minutes to go in the game. On the other hand, they beat North Dakota on the road. I come away from this with a couple of observations. First, we still don't know a lot about UNC; they may be worse than we thought. Second, SUU is better than anyone thought they would be. As for UND, who the he!! knows.

I think we win by 20 over UNC. I'll wait to make a prediction about UND.

If SUU can kill them on the boards, we should, as well. If we take care of the ball, and I think we will, 20 points is very doable. :coffee:

UNC boasts a record of 3-7 with 1 win over a D1 team
I seem to remember the UNC fans getting all hot and bothered during the Devon Beitzel year saying how they were the new sheriff in the Big Sky for basketball, wonder what happened?
The Big Sky IS and ALWAYS will be a 2 team league. Once in a great while some random team will step up and do something but it is never sustained.
Anyways, WSU by 20+

p.s. this league with the exception of WSU and Montana is Horrid!

Just looking at common opponents so far UNC beat University of the SouthWest by 45 but gave up 81 points to those guys. :ohno:

I am bringing another friend from work to his First Weber game. He is excited about it. I almost bought him to the BYU game but he went to school there so it was not a good idea. He will be cheering for us on gameday so it will be fun.

School is back in; first conf game...hoping for a good crowd to get things going. Need the student section growing.

Weber has won 9 home conf games in a row. Last loss was mar 2 2011.

Weber is 6-0 at home vs unc, 9-3 overall.

The team can put these guys away in the dee, no one should win at our place this yr, we are deep so hopefully foul trouble and fatigue won't get us in Ogden.

School is not back in. Not till the 7th. So I wonder what kind of student crowd we will have at the two games this wknd.

Thursday is my birthday so it would be totally groovy if I can attend. It would even be better if I can work the game and we get a huge win.

GOOOOOOOOO WILDCATS!!

Happy birthday Born2;

I hope you do make it to the game. You are a big part of this picture and we are all stronger with you than without. It's a new year and a new you to complete our Wildcat family. :thumb:

One UNC tool even proclaimed they were the next Gonzaga. And I think he was dead serious. Now they average 1,350 fans a game, which means they probably have less than 1,000 actually attending.

Remember this UNC game:

And remember the UNC fan that wanted the Dee to implode and kill everyone inside. Classic!!

To this day I still get chills watching that shot. I will never forget how quiet it was before the shot in and then the explosion after the shot.

I miss the UNCO fans talking smack. They were like a bunch of teenage girls with their logic. I really thought the cubbies would be far more competitive, but yeah, they aren't. Sad how bad the Sky is. We all keep hoping the Sky will improve but nope.

As for the cubbies thus season...Yes, there is talent there, but the coaching is a bit skeptical. They should have a better inside out game, but their guards think they are better than what they really are. Weber is far quicker than them and deeper in the paint.

I just glanced over UNCs team statistics, listed on the BSC web site. They play respectable defense. They are an average rebounding team. They have ballanced scoring, much like us. Much like Eastern W, they shoot a lot of threes. About 35% of their shots have been threes. They make 33% of them. That is respectable.

I think that we will attack them in the same way that we did Eastern W. On the outside, we switch on small to small screens, fight over the small to big screens, and show just enough to slow down the dribble pennetration. I suspect that there will be very little doubling on the post. I think we may see some half court trapping, and three quarter court zone pressing. We may also show a little matchup zone, depending on what we see out of their offence. :coffee:

If we get a significant lead, then I think we will see nothing but the standard man to man defense. :thumb:

I think Weber will win, if UNC is anything like EWU we got this, our stingy 3 point defense will make it harder for them to shoot, our gaurds are faster and more athletic, and we are bigger, taller and more athletic inside, there is no reason we shouldnt win this game by at least 10 points. Northern Colorado is talented, but it might take another year for them to contend again.

My prediction

Weber State 87
Northern Colorado 73

They gave up 81 to the University of the SouthWest. Respectable defense MY A$$ :ohno:

On average, they are holding teams to 40% shooting. That is not that bad. It's not great, but not bad. WSU and SUU are the two best rebounding teams in the conf. UNC is not a good rebounding team and yet, stayed in the game with SUU, at SUU. They held SUU to 51 points, and I am sure that SUU is better than Southwest school of Cosmetology.

We still win big. 85 - 65

When I make my predictions I look at what we do well and not so well and same for the team we play against. UNC likes to shoot 3's and have some decent guards and wing players. They don't have much of an inside game though and they are not great at rebounding. Weber State is excellent at defending the 3 is a better then average rebounding team and has a solid inside game. Looking at all that means to me UNC is in for a rough game. Its our first conference home game. They players are feeling good after out latest beatdown and 2-0 road trip. I see Weber rolling big against the baby bears. 78-63.

I watched the last part of that game, UNC choked, they missed freethrows, but still had the lead and the ball with less than 10 seconds to go, UNC passes the ball in and SUU steals it and score a layup to win, then UNC still has a chance and blows a layup at the buzzer. It's a crazy ending, you should all check it out on big sky tv. I am sure UNC was pissed.

Not saying that UNCO isn't talented, they are. The Cubbies have some good players and a bit of depth, but they don't play well together, but still seem over-matched in most of their games. You'd think a team with this experience would have been better. I guess not. The cubbies did lose a lot of players, a couple years back, when they won the Sky, and it was going to take them a while to regroup. I said before the start of last season that it was going to take the Cubbies two years to get back to where they were. This is another learning and growing year for the Cubbies.

The bad thing for the Cubbies, is that they don't play well together as a team. They depend way too much on their guard play, which isn't that amazing. I think the Cubbies can be good and most likely will, but not this year. Best thing for the Sugar Bear faithful is that BJ isn't Huse, so I suspect that the Cubbies should get better, but...that doesn't necessarily mean it will.

Nice write up by Roy.

You've got to wonder about UNCO. They have played some tough contests, Wichita State, Colorado State, and Northern Iowa. Granted, Weber hasn't exactly played the easiest schedule either with BYU, Utah State, and Dayton on our schedule. Riverside and Cal Poly I wouldn't exactly call major contests, but still solid DI road games for the cubbies. Regardless, I personally think that the cubbies have the talent, but haven't quite meshed. I think we will see the cubbies meshing more by the end of the conference season, which will definitely help them prepare for next season. I like what the cubbies bring to the table talent wise. After Weber and Montana, they might be the next most talented and deep team. Who knows. I'm thinking the cubbies will make a game of it tonight for most of the game, but Weber's depth wears them down.
