Northern Colorado

Well we have ourselves a game. Northern Colorado believes they can win this game now. Defense is missing tackles left and right. The pass rush needs to step up. They can’t stop our run game so hopefully we can slow it down and grind them to dust in the 2nd half.

Wow, I still have no idea how good or bad this team is compared to last year's edition. Although not as bad as in years past, the Wildcats still seem to have some slow starts. Just when it starts to look like they're taking control of a game they often stumble. The BSC is starting to kinda show its strengths, but still not real clear there either. Luckily, I believe Weber's schedule is favorable this year and hopefully forgiving as they continue to figure themselves out.

Weber scores the 2nd most points in today's Big Sky action, and gives up the 2nd most points as well. It's hard to know what to expect from them this year.

Ugly win but so what. UNC won’t win many games this year but they have some very good players.

3-1 at the bye which is what we all reasonably hoped for. Josh Davis has over 500 yards in 3 games. Constantine has shown promise at QB. Denby, Shaheed and Cooley make a solid group at receiver. This group needs to continue to make strides during the bye week if we want to win the conference.

Disappointed in the defensive performance on our home field. Should’ve been able to shut down the run game but a lot of tackles were missed. When we put our opponent in obvious passing downs our defense is extremely tough. Jeremy Maxwell was the defensive player of the game.

We were good enough to beat a bad team at home. Need to continue to improve to go down to Flagstaff and get a W.

Not saying that things would have been any different, but we were without our starting safeties and dinged up at corner. Still, there were a lot of blown coverages and missed tackles. That didn't look like us out there. With that said, UNCO is a solid passing team. They will win some games on that alone.

I'm hoping that we can get some of this cleaned up over the bye week, get some of our injured guys back, and play a little better in Flagstaff. The bye week is coming at a great time. :coffee:

Wasn't Maxwell one of the two ejected for targeting?

Jonah Williams and Trey Hoskins were ejected.

I strongly disagree with Hoskins’ ejection.

Yep, Hoskins' call was junk. He lead with his shoulder and didn't even make contact. And why are offensive players never called for targeting? UNC QB Mott (who acted like an arrogant jerk all night, by the way) lowered and lead with his helmet a couple times, especially against Preator near the end of the game. Preator was pissed, as he should of been.

I consider this a good win! It’s nice to have some mistakes to work on and make the team fight. If we can win the next one, the EWU game might be our biggest regular season game ever.

In what ways was he acting like an arrogant jerk?

Mott was looking over at the Weber sideline and talking after every touchdown don't know why he but he was. He also was going after the student section but they could have been taunting him too but he should be focused on the game not the fans or students. Mott was also supposedly a ESPN top 25 quarterback out of high school I don't see that at all he is good but not a top level QB by any means.
This game seemed to be personal to Mott I know about what happened to him at BYU but he seemed to be pissed at Weber too don't get it.

Our O seems to be making good progress. It's our D that now seems to be needing a break to get players healthy and back on the field. Hopefully the bye week will help get our guys back and ready to go for the NAU game.

To understand why UNCo was so chipy, You just need to look at their planning and their record. They have been planning for this to be THE year for their program. They have a large group of seniors who have been groomed for this year. This was supposed to be the redeeming year for their coaching staff. They set their schedule up for a run at the playoffs. They have some very good players, but things have not gone the way they wanted them to. They are trying hard and will win some games, but they are nowhere near where they thought they would be. They are frustrated, angry, and probably feel a little picked on. They will either get better or fall completely apart. :coffee:

Mott and nearly every other UNC player was acting like jerks. It was chippy both ways, but they sure were acting like they were a 3-0 team, not a 0-3 team. Mott was acting arrogant from start to finish, and he was taunting the east side stands. I have to say, I remember being in the student section when the game went to 4 overtimes, and the players were so rude, and taunting cheerleaders... That game, UNC had a chance to win it on a FG, and before kicking it, the UNC players were giving all of us the business. Needless, it was blocked and we gave it right back. Maybe it starts with a loser of a coach....

Hoskins did launch himself with the shoulder going first, as the player was on his way down. It was the right call. This isnt the first time he has been called for targeting.

I have no problem with the players talking smack. I’m sure the students dont as well. All they are doing is making The Destruction louder. UNCo played hard and has some ballers.

Yeah maybe if you have reason to talk smack. They're 0-3 and it's tied in the 1st half and they're taunting the entire stadium like they just won something. Only made themselves look like the losers they are. Especially Mott. If anything he caused his team to lose with his three turnovers at critical times and in critical places. Dude had no reason to be acting like that.

Still not completely sold on Constantine as our starter, he always looks rattled and jittery when he drops back to pass and is quick to take off before his receivers get into their routes if he feels even the smallest amount of pressure. I'm all for letting the guy grow into his position though and he has shown promise. I also liked what I saw from the offense as a whole. Still have much to work on, 3rd down conversions are still bad. Defensively our secondary got really tested on Saturday. Tackling was pretty bad too. Players need to realize eventually that just hitting someone hard isn't going to suffice, wrap them up. The defensive performance reminded me of our home game last year against SUU. Luckily our offense scored some points. Yes I am aware that we had some injuries on defense but these holes need to be fixed. The D made the necessary stops late but credit to UNC, they came to win.

There is a reason that I am beginning to hate the NFL, and college is starting to follow suite. Football is a physical sport, stop calling all these namby pamby calls and let the kids play. These kids know the risks involved in this sport.

Bye couldn't have come at a better time in my opinion, our schedule only gets harder from here and we could use the time to get healthy and ready to take on a tough NAU squad.

Go Cats.

My .02
A win is a win is a win. Just win.

Offense B-
Too many turnovers. Ball security was horrible this game. The picks were poor passes; high, behind and poorly timed. A few bright spots with the long TD to Shaheed and the TD passes to Denby and Latu. The running attack was really good for most of the game. A few lapses here and there. Can't wait to see Treshawn and Josh sharing the load. Fresh legs in the fourth quarter should help salt away games.

Defense B
We were good mostly. Stuffed the run and put pressure on the pocket. Coverage was hot and cold. Too many mistakes and too many penalties, though at least one of the targeting calls for each team was total BS. Tackling was a problem at times, gotta wrap up. We gave up a few long gains after what looked like a stop for a loss or a short gain.

Special Teams B
Awesome kick return for a TD, probably won the game for us. Gave us momentum when we really needed it. Punt returns were ugly, catch the damn ball and then run with it. Love Josh as a running back, but he scares me as a returner. Not a big fan of the onside kick attempt, but we almost pulled it off. Tuttle seems to be struggling a bit compared to last year. Not sure the cause.

Overall it was a good time and it was a win. And that is all that matters.

UNCO isn't a terrible team and are quite dangerous offensively. They definitely proved that they could move the ball. I'm not going to get after Mott for his aggressive play. He was a QB at a localish high school and probably wanted to prove to Weber what we missed out on. He made some plays and did everything he could trying to keep the momentum going. I feel that the defense came out and played significantly better in the second half than in the first half and limited UNCO's ability to move the ball. We were playing with a lot of youth on defense and the defense was still playing well. Offensively, I'm shocked that we haven't had that many TOs earlier. Our offense is young and learning and in that case TOs tend to happen more frequently. Each week will be an experience with this team. Just happy that we earned another hard fought W.
