Northern Iowa @ Weber State

Huge game this weekend...

Weber is a 1.5 point favorite at home. Massey has us favored by 4.5

Two evenly matched teams led by defense and special teams although they are better at QB than we are. At the least, their QB can scramble and find some receivers open downfield. I caught a bit of the Idaho State game was pretty surprised how much UNI struggled to move the ball. I’m not convinced ISU has a good defense.

Hopefully the offense made the most of the bye week and comes out with a fresh approach. UNI has limited Iowa St. SUU, and Idaho State’s running games so far this year so Jenks (presumably) will need to make some throws. this game probably comes down to field position turnovers, and the kicking game.

Forecast is cold and rainy...

Minor changes to the depth chart at DT
DT
Sione Lapuaho
Doug Schiess OR Jordan Lutui

DT Jared Schiess
Jayden Palauni

With the way Weber rotates the DL, there really is no difference from game to game.

No other changes and no injury notes. Constantine is listed as QB1 and Downs at LT. Per the coaches comments today on 1280, Jenks is healthy and Constantine will be evaluated in practice today.

Conference teams are 18-1 at home this season (thanks UNC for ruining a perfect OOC home record). So I guess we have that going for us. :-D

After watching Jenks last game, I'd feel much better about things with Constantine back. That said, I'm not feeling great about Constantine either.

Yikes, weather is looking downright awful. Cold temps, rain, possible thunder storms, and possible hail. I'd guess there will be less than 2000 fans show up.

If I were athletics, instead of 3000 shirts, I would be doing everything in my power to find thousands of rain ponchos. Save the shirts for another day, but get ponchos ready for the game. Call the bookstore and get them to donate (I know...huh) ponchos or at the very least sell ponchos for a couple bucks (I'm guessing cost is less than a dollar). Not the $6 they usually want (absolute garbage and highway robbery).

No matter, I'll be there with my poncho, umbrella, and warm clothes. GOOO CATS!!

On another matter...nothing on campus. This is a major game for Weber. Two top 10 teams, and nothing on campus. There should be food, music, signs, flyers on cars, but nothing. Go to the U this week and see what is on that campus. You definitely know there is a game. Go to USU and you can see that they Aggies are playing and that they want their students at the game. Come to Ogden and you see NOTHING. Come on athletics. There is new blood!! Time for a change and to actually do something.

No need to worry about handing out cotton T-shirt’s in this weather. Probably won’t even get 3k people with that forecast. I’ll be in town with some friends who have never been to a Weber game - I’m really bummed about the storm.

I think Constantine is considerably better than Jenks, but if he isn’t 100% confident in his knee yet and it’s going to be pouring rain then maybe it makes sense to have the more mobile QB in there who can at least get a few yards on keepers.

I am with you 100% on all of that.

I'll be there, but I have the luxury of being inside in relative warmth. Personally, I don't think the rain will be all day long or change the game much. Lightning could be a factor, who knows. It will be colder, but not like November sort of cold. I think we can still get a good crowd.

It really is sad how little they do to get the students involved with their own campus. :coffee:

One thing that hasn't been talked about is the fact that Weber is coming off a bye week. Hill coached teams haven't exactly been great following a bye. The SUU and NAU losses were bad losses, although SUU was mainly due to not having Cantwell. The NAU loss was probably the most frustrating loss in Hill's time at Weber. All kinds of stupid mistakes that cost them a game they absolutely should have won otherwise and cost them an outright conference title.

My .02 on this game.

I expect this to be a defensive grinder. Both teams have good-extremely good defenses and offenses that have not yet clicked consistently.

UNI has struggled to establish the run with an anemic 2.3 avg (242 yds on 102 carries). The passing attack has accounted for 621 yds on 93 attempts for a 6.67 average per passing play.

Weber ran the ball well against Cal Poly but struggled against the two FBS schools (372 yds on 89 carries for an avg of 4.17). The passing attack has been non-existent all year with 364 yards on 84 attempts for a 4.17 yds per attempt average.

With it likely being sloppy weather, I expect both teams to try to run the ball more. I believe this game will be won at the line of scrimmage by whichever team can run the ball consistently. Both defenses will need to make sure tackles or risk long gains.

Weber is a slight favorite in this one, but it will be a slogfest.

Gameday! Latest forecast calls for 58 degrees, thunderstorms, and 92% chance of precip at kickoff. Doesn't look to change much throughout the game, just hoping for no lighting delays. But I'll be there, rain poncho and all. Go Cats!
