Northwest Road Trip

Jeremy Senglin will never make it as a 2 in the NBA. He will be hard pressed play in the D - League or oversees somewhere. I have stood beside Jeremy and I am 5'11". He was only a hairs breath taller than me. Maybe 6 feet and a half inch at the most. And I agree with Tal that he just doesn't cut it as a point. Just ain't big enough for the next level at the 2. To his credit, he can create his own shot, and when he is hot, he is as good a 3pt shooter as their is. Whats with his foul shooting though?

Totally disagree baller. Full teams key on Senglin with their defensive schemes. Shut him down you can beat us. Put him on a team with offensive firepower at several positions and he's going to see open shots when other teams double down on other players. Including lots of open 3 looks. He'll find space on better teams. Senglin can shoot it. Did you say the same thing for Bamforth? He couldn't get to the basket as well as Senglin. He wasn't as physically solid -- and I don't think he shot 3's as well either.

It's tough being the guy every team keys on. I'm sure he's feeling pressured. I don't recall him going through a slump like this and we'll see how he fights through it. But Senglin will make money playing basketball after his Weber days are over.

Ktown, thanks for your input on my post. Just want to remind you that I didn't say he wouldn't make some money at the next level; I said he wouldn't make it in the NBA. He probably will get a shot on some foreign pro team on in the D-League and make a few bucks. But his lack of size, average quickness and modest game outside of his three point shooting will probably prevent any time in the NBA.

I stand by my previous post that he will not be a great 3pt shooter at the next level for the same reason that he disappears and can't hit the side of a barn in some games and for extended minutes in almost every game. In the last 4 games Jeremy has averaged 20 points and shot the 3 at a rate of 30%. Against North Dakota he shot only 16% for the three and his best game was at Portland State where he shot 62%. EWU, ND, and UNC play defense and had either a quicker, bigger or very athletic guy playing him heads up for most of the game. In those games his 3pt shooting averaged only 28%. He shot 62% against PSU, but everyone knows that they can't spell defense, much less play it.

In my opinion one must shoot at least 40%+ against good defenses to be considered a great 3pt shooter. Jeremy has proven over and over for almost 4 years now that he is not capable of hitting the three at that rate when he had a decent defender on him.

By the way, in those 4 games Braxton has averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds. He has been a viable second option to take the pressure off Senglin and Senglin still didn't perform well enough to carry the team to 4 victories. All of us knew that the success of this team this year was going to depend on how well Senglin put it on his shoulders and won games. He is the only guy we have now that can play that role and he hasn't been able to play it either well enough or consistently enough to lead Weber to a conference championship, or to a good preseason for that matter.

I repeat what I said in my previous post. This season has disappointed because there isn't enough talent on the team to overcome Randy's shortcomings and limitations as a coach.

Lets try to enjoy the rest of this disappointing season, while hoping for the best. As for me, I anxiously await next season hoping that the new recruits bring to the table what is missing in the 2016-17 table setting. Let's hope that they do have the talent to offset Randy's limits and can win the conference again. I don't harbor any dreams that we will ever be better than winning the BSC under Randy. It is a pipe dream to think that he can take us anywhere in the NCAA. Just ain't gonna happen.

Another disappointing game. The Idaho announcers were very fair in their calling and color on the game. And they said it best about Weber near the end of regulation. Weber had long periods of time where they just "seemed to go to sleep". Three different times where they went 5-10 minutes without a basket.

I now understand why Hill has never developed into as good a basketball player as he is an athlete. He is just a step to slow on defense, shoots the ball from far to low, not quick off his feet rebounding and is constantly out-positioned for rebounds, both offensive and defensive. He was out rebounded today by every starter on the team except Richardson. For me, his career at WSU has been a disappointment. Just never developed his game enough. Maybe we do need a bigs coach.

Senglin scored 31 but didn't have a great game. He did however, finish the last three minutes of regulation at a top-notch level. He was single handedly why we got the game to overtime when we shouldn't have.

Our offense goes into that around the perimeter weave and rarely looks to make an inside pass to Hill or Braxton. They seem afraid to attempt the inside pass. But it is probably best that they not get it to Hill. He just isn't good enough offensively around the basket that you can count on him to get points consistently. He will turn it over as often as he scores it. On the other hand, Braxton can be counted on and Rahe should put in more creative ways to get him the ball down low.

All of that said the difference in the game today was two-fold. Weber's three point shooting was dismal at 29% but even more of a cause for the bad game was our lack of defensive rebounding. We were out rebounded by 10 rebounds defensively. They were constantly extending their time with the ball in their hands by rebounding their missed shots. It was so glaringly bad that it was embarrassing.

You can believe what you like about Randy Rahe as a coach. But I say that he is a below average coach who has recruited above average in the Big Sky. I hope he opens even a wider gap in his recruiting because we need it to overcome Randy's decencies and win games.

Senglin had an excellent game....31 points on 19 shots plus 7 dimes and only 2 TO...Idaho super star Sanders out....Weber should have found a way to get the W

The fact that we couldn't pull this out, despite Idaho playing without Sanders, is discouraging. Once again, we were one-dimensional and got dominated in the paint. Now we're going to be hard-pressed to earn one of those top two seeds for the conference tourney. Forget about a regular-season crown. :ohno:

We knew, going in to this season, that our rebounding might be an issue. We all hoped that other players would fill the hole left by Bolomboy's graduation. Rebounding has been an issue all season long and today was no different. Cody John had 6, and Zack Braxton had 9. Even Harding had 2 in 13 minutes. Hill 4, Senglin 3, and Richardson 3, just will not get it done. Outside of Harding, our bench gave us very little today. Seems like we can only win when we out shoot other teams by a wide margin. We are not a good defensive team, we don't create turnovers and we seldom out rebound anyone.

If we are to win this tournament, we will have to shoot the lights out.

Thank goodness that we are bringing in a couple of high level rebounders next year.

Amen Ktown!! Richardson just hasn't improved as a player. His development has been limited at best. From what I can gather is that his purpose is to hit open threes when JS is doubled. He is a decent passer but usually has two or three TOs a game that are WTF moments (overtime yesterday was his latest one), a terrible rebounder and soft defender. He isn't very tough. Baker according to Randy can only be a 4 this year (stupid stubbornness of Randy) which is a bone headed move. He should be starting at the 3. Use your walk on big as your 4th big and go forward from there. Morris is probably as good as Dallas anyway; at least he can rebound. He's on the team for hells sake and is probably really fresh. Also, we know he can spread the court. I don't know why you wouldn't mix some things up. You are 0-3 in the last week. Should be 0-6 in the last three weeks. Evidently something is seriously wrong. Time to coach and make some changes Randy.

I know I have mentioned this before but it seems like Rahe is doing a poor job with the rotation. I looked back at game stats this year and when we were rolling the bench was sharing substantial minutes (Harding, Cannon, and Baker primarily). I feel like Rahe has given up on half his team. Based on what he is doing with the rotation we won't have a bench player find his rhythm and be a spark off the bench. It's more like those players go in and then if something goes bad he pulls them quick. There have been 2 games in the past few weeks where he had 8 players in the lineup in the 1st half and then in the 2nd half it was a 6 man rotation. Then the other team goes on a run late in the 2nd because our guys have no legs. And I wouldn't consider John and Richardson much better than Harding-Cannon or Baker. Give those bench guys a chance to be "the guy" in any given game instead of Senglin and company and that's it. We have no chance in the tournament if Rahe only relies on 6 guys. Even if the bench has its weaknesses he has to decrease the minutes and find the hot hand. It seems like Rahe is panicking and losing too much trust. Maybe I'm up in the night but our starting five isn't that great and I would rather have Senglin fresh or give Cannon more minutes if he is on (eastern wash for example). He had solid 1st half and saw 2 minutes in the 2nd half. Also, Baker and Harding have the ability any given game to be the spark offensively.
