I don't know if I should laugh or ban you and delete the post. You certainly did make me look. But you ask why not? How about our mens and womens basketball teams winning the conference and making it to their march madness tournaments?
It's not all about football. As long as we have the scholarships to cover the D-I requirements, I think we need to stay. And it's not like our football team is that far off.

The fair weather troll is at it again.

Miguel, were you the bully scouring the playground to find the smallest, weakest boy to beat on, so you could brag about how dominant you are (to your one--invisible--friend)?

We get a game against CU and you view it as worthless? Your championship-or-retreat approach has no doubt served you well in life, being so grounded in basic probability.

Eventually we'll get a new coach and we can take the next step. In the meantime, you can root for Alabama. They win every game, just like you, studmuffin!

What a disgusting post by Miguel. We would really look like a pussy University after The Dakotas left D11. That would be a complete failure going back. Yes we need to change and tweak some things and a lot of it is attitudes like Miguel's but move forward. Go Bears

I pose a question and get called names.... I did like studmuffin though... thanks, bearadactyl but I have a wife; I am sure that eHarmony can help you. I had forgotten how sad and angry the posters on this list serve are. I understand- losing hurts and years of it gets frustrating. There, there...

University of Idaho is moving to down to FCS because doing so is in the best interest of their players and fans. At the FCS level and in the Big Sky, they will be able to compete for a title. If you think UNC is even close to doing so, you have no idea what it takes to win an FCS national championship or even a play off game. DII was where UNC had success; FCS has meant mediocrity at best...

But what about the basketball team?.... Let's see.. one season of NCAAA tournament success in the exciting 2011 season and then recently NCAA probation and scandal... classy... if it takes academic fraud to finish in the middle of the pack in the Big Sky count me out....

Brian was the only one to even answer the question I posed with something resembling thought. I feel sorry for the rest of you...

In reality, only a few teams consistently compete for a conference championship at any sport in any conference. First off, I think the Big Sky is one of the better conferences in the FCS so it takes time (and better coaching) to compete at that level. Pick any conference, lets say the ACC in the BCS (which I think may be a close equivalent to the Big Sky in FCS).
In the last 20 seasons, only 5 teams have won the football title in the ACC and 7 teams have won the basketball title. Should teams like North Carolina State, Boston College, Pittsburgh consider moving down to the FCS? That would be ridiculous. I think a viable option would be to switch to an easier FCS conference but we don't have any in our region so we are really committed to the Big Sky based on pure geography.

Brian, fair enough, but let's remember teams in those big conferences have the ability to raise revenue through football and receive significant money because of the basketball television contract. North Carolina is terrible this year but they can make money even at 1 and 8. The beauty of UNCs old conference was since there were relatively local teams to play, the team could bus. The Big Sky means plane rides for almost every game rather than bus rides to schools like Mines and we end up playing Air Force 100 times for almost every sport. Regionally, DII makes more sense...

Wasn't our closest Division rival Augustana in Siuox Falls and Nebraska Omaha? Neither are exactly close. There were other DII teams in the state but none of them were in the North Central Conference.

Why don't we try a better coach for a bit and see if that helps before throwing the baby out with the bath water. The budget is right in the middle of the conference, we have pipelines to snag some decent players that CU/CSU don't have the ability to go after. It all starts with the top to want to be a good program and not settle for the mediocre at best Coach Collins and his merry band of losers.
