Nothing to say?

I've been tuning in to a few other Big Sky fan forums lately and it is amazing how little our forum is utilized compared to the Griz, for example. They have a dozen or more threads going continually on any number of issues (some goofy, some serious). Do we have too many other things going on in the Rose City to involve ourselves more as fans, or do we just lack the imagination to kick start stuff? Just wondering.

I would venture to say that we see the big sky as not our permanent home, but as a temporary, developmental conference. A public university in a city the size of Portland needs to be in a conference more befitting its size and character. According to Metro, the Portland area gains 500 people in an average week. Metro estimates that an additional million people will be in the region by 2030.

For me, it is difficult to get too excited about developmental levels. We are very interested from the standpoint that the programs ARE developing upward. When we begin to play in a conference that IS more befitting to us, I believe, we will have all kinds of excitement brewing, like they have now at Montana.

Montana can move up based on quality, but they are very good and "center stage" at this level and may choose to remain where they fit and feel best. Portland State, IMO, feels its potential at this level, but certainly not much fit for the long-term. The sooner we develop to fit ourselves into the FBS, the greater fit PSU will realize and the fan base will feel it too. When they do, IMO, they will come out literally overnight.

I see your point, Broadway, and pretty much agree. I don't expect much talk here. Still, I'll go on posting inter alia the women's side. Fort example, this last weekend the women's track team came in 3rd in the conference, with two setting all time conference records. That's worth saying something about. And softball is standing at 7-7 in pre-conference play, not bad since they've been playing the nation's best. There we've been starting a couple freshmen regularly and they've done very well. Freshman pitcher Johnson just may be another Bernard. If so, we'll have two pitchers come conference time who will dominate the conference and maybe win it outright (as predicted by the coaches). Bernard, by the way, for the third week in a row was named outstanding pitcher in the Mountain Division.

There's always something to talk about, if you don't mind talking to yourself. :-)

I Love Montana (the state) but let's face it, unless you're tying flies you use on the Rock Creek once the Salmon Flies hatch, there isn't much to occupy your mind in the winter months. However, I do think that once the wall around Oregon is completed by coach Burton, we might be as interested in the local HS kids and where they will fit in the PSU system as our brethren in Montana are.

I've read their posts too, and there seems to be a lot of "You don't know squat" kind of posts. I come here to gain knowledge not try to one up someone.

Things are always pretty slow during the off-season, that goes for most message boards. Things tend to pick up once spring ball starts.
