It’s crazy to believe that losing Topalovic will make us better. The kid is PAC 12 bound. He won’t be an impact player, but at least he has the guts to compete at a higher level. He had already performed at a high level with the BSC. Can’t blame him for wanting to see if he can compete in a power 5 conference. I’m more courious why a player wouldn’t want to give it a try.
I think it will make us better because it will play to our overall strength. We have great outside shooters and an awesome guard coming back. Evans has said his strategy this season was to get it inside first. How many times were players open for shots, but they passed on them in order to try to get the ball to Novak? And we're putting on our orange goggles if we want to believe he didn't have his own set of liabilities. He led the team in turnovers, and he was 6th in the conference for turning the ball over. I'd prefer he stay, but I don't have a problem if he goes.
Somebody will take him, but I see him as a bench player on a P5 team. An article is already out there talking about whether the Arizona Wildcats should take him. It dissed his offense, but said his value would be to stick him in on defense (and to balance a class which just graduated a larger than normal amount of seniors). Good for him if he wants to do that. There are some players who would rather say they are competing at a higher level, if even for minimal minutes a game, than playing a whole lot of minutes at a lower level. Me, I'd want to play as much as I can.
As far as getting a shot at the NBA, if you're good enough, they will find you. I think Novak is a better player than Jesse Smith was for us when he played for Doug Oliver. That's not a dig on Smith, because he played his ass off. And the big guy from little ol' Mackay, Idaho, played a few years in the D League, G League, or whatever the Hell it's called these days. Slim Millien, also a player under Oliver, played a few years for the Harlem Globetrotters. Many players since then have played professionally overseas. Rodney Stuckey and, of course, Damien Lillard, will tell you that Big Sky players have a good chance of playing in the NBA if you're good enough.
Ltbengal and Skippy, I hope you guys post more of this type of stuff. It's a great read, and I enjoy the insight and opinions. Nice job!
