Novak Topalovic Transferring

Have heard that Novak has told some folks that he thinks playing at a higher level, even for just one year, will enhance his chances of making it into the NBA.

Wish him well in that endeavour.

It will, not saying that he’s NBA bound, but stranger things have happened. At least maybe a G league invite and a chance to prove himself.
He’s improved every year and with the right development can take it to another level. How can any fan deny the kid a chance to fulfill his dream? Hate losing him, but he’ll be fine. Idaho State will be too!

It’s crazy to believe that losing Topalovic will make us better. The kid is PAC 12 bound. He won’t be an impact player, but at least he has the guts to compete at a higher level. He had already performed at a high level with the BSC. Can’t blame him for wanting to see if he can compete in a power 5 conference. I’m more courious why a player wouldn’t want to give it a try.

I think it will make us better because it will play to our overall strength. We have great outside shooters and an awesome guard coming back. Evans has said his strategy this season was to get it inside first. How many times were players open for shots, but they passed on them in order to try to get the ball to Novak? And we're putting on our orange goggles if we want to believe he didn't have his own set of liabilities. He led the team in turnovers, and he was 6th in the conference for turning the ball over. I'd prefer he stay, but I don't have a problem if he goes.

Somebody will take him, but I see him as a bench player on a P5 team. An article is already out there talking about whether the Arizona Wildcats should take him. It dissed his offense, but said his value would be to stick him in on defense (and to balance a class which just graduated a larger than normal amount of seniors). Good for him if he wants to do that. There are some players who would rather say they are competing at a higher level, if even for minimal minutes a game, than playing a whole lot of minutes at a lower level. Me, I'd want to play as much as I can.

As far as getting a shot at the NBA, if you're good enough, they will find you. I think Novak is a better player than Jesse Smith was for us when he played for Doug Oliver. That's not a dig on Smith, because he played his ass off. And the big guy from little ol' Mackay, Idaho, played a few years in the D League, G League, or whatever the Hell it's called these days. Slim Millien, also a player under Oliver, played a few years for the Harlem Globetrotters. Many players since then have played professionally overseas. Rodney Stuckey and, of course, Damien Lillard, will tell you that Big Sky players have a good chance of playing in the NBA if you're good enough.

Ltbengal and Skippy, I hope you guys post more of this type of stuff. It's a great read, and I enjoy the insight and opinions. Nice job!

I’ve heard that Utah and Oregon State have already inquired about Novak. I know some folks don’t see him as a starter, but I suspect he’ll still get minutes, depending on matchups, wherever he goes. He’ll also benefit from practicing every day against PAC 12 athletes. I can see Novak having a nice successful career overseas, or perhaps in the D league if he chooses to pursue the NBA dream. And some guys take years to make the NBA happen, but it can be worth it. I think David Stockton is going to earn $ 150 K for his two ten-day contracts with the Jazz.

As crazy as it seems I think Ltbasketball is right, and he didn`t mention Mocsan a quickly improving guard that can go deep or take it to the hole. Plus if you spread the floor it`s easier for Boyd, Stutzman, Mocsan to go to the hole and Gary to spot up and Evans said he is the best shooter he has ever coached, but that was before we got Stutzman now we have a bevy of shooters and penetrators, and it would be fun to watch. GO BENGALS

I think Novak would benefit if he went to Utah, Kristowiak knows how to develop big guys and he has the experience from his playing and coaching days in the NBA. When he coached at Montana, they always had a great inside game.

I’m
Pretty confident , when a kid does decide to grad transfer, he is definitely looking to be a major contributor/starter. I think Utah can be a good fit for him as others mentioned. I’m not one to judge what a kid wants to do, in terms of goals and his ambitions; but the choice of which school he will go to can really dictate what he does there after. If he goes to a p5 school, and comes off the bench- all sort of scouts will take note-“he’s not good enough to start” etc etc. that’s why all kids who do grad transfer should really have their options open. A lot of kids these days are after the big names, but I have seen kids pursue those schools and fail to improve on that, and fail to obtain their specific end goal.

This decision can be one of the most important ones for Novak, will be interesting to follow.

Not a bad list to choose from for a guy who averaged a point a game as a senior in high school. I hope he has a great experience.

Did a SLC radio interview at noon today with Utah PBP guy Bill Riley. Apparently the Utes are on Novak's short list and they wanted to know more about him.

Somebody on the Ute message board said they spoke with Bill Evans this weekend, and he thinks he's going to Utah.
