Observations - Eastern Game

Crowd was bigger than I expected. You can tell concern is growing.

The officiating was horrible. I don't understand how they botched so many calls and all of the indecisive replays.

Easterns coach is a piece of work. How do they keep finding such jokers?

Fuller needs to start. He and Kozak played well together. We need more blue collar guys like Fuller

Barnes is so far in the dog house that coach didn't want to put him in after Jerrick got hurt . It looked like the assistants had to convince Randy to put him in. We almost played on with four. Is this the end for another talented recruit?

I hope the best for the two injuries in the last minute.

The EWU coach is a total a**clown. He really should have faced some conference discipline action after last year’s game in Ogden. Why the refs don’t give him a technical foul early in the game to stop his raving is beyond me.

It works to his credit though, the refs get scared and don’t call some fouls or give his team the close calls.

I have never seen such a state of apathy with basketball. I’m sure we can expect the same excuses of facing a veteran team or that injuries are to blame. All teams face injuries and some coaches have the “next man up” mentality. Rahe uses injuries as a crutch.

Plus as many good players as Rahe chases off means you will never have a veteran team.

Losing is tough and hard to deal with, but if you have players that scrap (like a Brad Barton type) and give it their all with a team concept, that is okay. Just like Hill’s first year of 2-10, it was easier to deal with because players gave it their all and the games were all competitive as compared to Sears 2-10 years where you could leave at halftime and the team had given up.

I wish the defense was as good when Becker was an assistant. I have never seen it so lazy and so many uncontested shots.

I think the football team will finish with more home wins than the basketball program...for sure if you dump the 3 crap games. That tells you how different a trajectory those programs are on.

Even if Weber State loses 20 games this year; I would still go to them if Rahe just owned up to problems and admitted they have to get better, but hearing the same excuses every game just is old and leaves me not wanting to pay money to see it.

What is it... 4 more years of the Rahe Retirement Tour? Yikes!

What a disgrace WSU Bball has become. They should hand out refunds on the way out of the games from now now.

If Randy was paid 175k and only 650k was going into his program each season then his results would be fairly acceptable. The issue, for me at least, is the huge amount of disparity between funding and facilities with most of the Big Sky and Weber State. We are doing far less while paying far more than everyone else. Randy has definitely helped the rest of the Sky get better but while everyone else improves, Weber has remained stagnant. Eastern, as an example, pays out $15 for each win, while Weber pays out $75. The expectation is enormous and a Randy just isn’t fulfilling what he agreed to do for the contract and monies he’s received. College athletics isn’t about what you did last year or 5 years ago, it’s about, regrettably, what have you done now. Universities have athletics as a mechanism of revenue generation and development opportunity. Weber isn’t getting what it’s investing.

You want some bang for your buck. If you're the highest paid coach in the conference, you should be reloading every year.

Last night's Big Sky scores shows there might not be a dominant program who runs away with it this year. Every game was decided by 2 points or less, except for the ISU-EWU game. ISU won by 6 against the pre-season favorite. I wouldn't be surprised to see several teams in the mix, and it comes down to the final weekend.

I'm glad we won last night, but even with missing Jerrick and Davis I found it a bit pathetic that we were celebrating a one point win on our home floor against the worst team in the Big Sky, a game we were up 14 in the second half. Shows you how far this program has fallen.

The rebounding and paint defense were not nearly good enough. I hope we see more of Fuller, Zdor and Kozak at the 4/5 together rather than small ball with Davis at the 4 and three more guards. Only 4 turnovers was awesome, that was the key to the win.

I hope we get back to full strength soon so we can see if this team will get any better. It was nice to see Fuller get some more offensive opportunities and to see Barnes and Zdor back on the floor. I hope Randy has learned we can't win through the whole conference season on a six to seven man rotation.

They collapsed down the stretch and Idaho had multiple chances to win the game. The Wildcats were lucky Idaho didn’t capitalize. A win shorthand is good, but boy has the program declined.

I think Barnes played great. John was 0-7 in first half. Does anyone know why Barnes is in Rahe’s dog house? I liked his quotes in the paper. He seems to be a team player. I’m sure he will be forced out next year.

Totally agree about not going with 7-8 man rotation.

I don’t see many road victories this year. I guess NAU will be a measuring stick.

Happy New Year Wildcat Nation!
