OC Steve Clark to BYU

I'm sure that Hill will open it up, consider all of his options, and have someone in place by spring ball. Let's face it, at our level, we will be looking at both ends of the spectrum. The experienced, top of their game, OCs are at bigger programs. We will be looking at up and comers and recycled older coaches.

Personally, I favor the up and comers. You never know where you might find a gem. I trust Hill's ability to find the right guy for us. :thumb: :thumb:

Probably little interest but Brandon Doman is around, is he ready to get back in the college game?

Re-treads (IMO 0% chance): Robin Pflugrad (interviewing finalist for Rocky Mtn College H.C.) and Matt Hammer (better off at WHS than back at WSU).
Pflugrad withdrew his name from consideration for the Rocky Mountain College HC job on Jan 21 "to pursue other coaching opportunities." Haven't heard anything and I have no idea if Pflugrad is even being considered, but just found this interesting. The offense under Pflugrad the season (2013) he was here was terrible.

U of M fans hold Pflu in pretty high regards as an OC, he didn't have much to work with when he was here so that would contribute to some of the reason why the offense was terrible, there's only so much you can do with inferior players.

When Pflu was here he spent more time looking for other jobs than he did actually coaching. I do NOT want that type of person back thanks.

True, he didn't give the impression this was a place he wanted to be. Maybe "just Weber" was below his standards?

An up-and-comer is who I would want to see come take the OC position. I don't want a has been who isn't invested in the school, program, or community.

That's a bigger gamble, and if you strike gold (and sometimes if you don't) they're off to greener pastures. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you though...

For a FCS program like WSU, you hope for an interest in the program, school & community, but I wouldn't put a lot into "invested" unless you mean a up-and-comer who is ambitious & energetic & makes a commitment (even short term if successful), like Jay Hill, I believe. There's no doubt that if successful, it will be a short term commitment when they surely receive offers from bigger schools.

Coach McBride said when he first came to Weber that he wanted assistants who held high promise & potential with their performances, ones who wanted a first step @ Weber State, then would be candidates to move upwards in the coaching ranks (as assistants or HC). That's a good philosophy in FCS coaching ranks.

Personally as a fan, I would hope that HC Hill can hire assistants that show good promise & could step in to replace him if & when he moves on, which with continued success will happen sooner than later. "Retreads" I'm not so sure about, as you're likely asking for problems in the very short term :twocents:

Congratulations to Jason Kaufusi, the new DC at Weber State

Good find.

Sitake crossed my mind at first but OC seemed like a big jump for him with his limited coaching experience combined with the poor passing ability of the team and poor play of the receiving corp last season while he served as the passing coordinator and receivers coach. But, I'm pulling for him and certainly hope it works out. He might be that up and comer people are looking for.

I like the Kaufusi move.

I second that...& now add some new eager blood to back fill? :thumb:

I really like both of these promotions. They both deserve it and I'm not sure that we could have done any better going outside of the program. Those guys are committed to coach Hill and WSU. It's going to be an exciting season. We have made progress for the last two years and things look positive for Hill's third year. :thumb: :thumb:

It's always sad when we get the loyalist from BYU on this message board. These are the same nut jobs that say the same thing during spring ball and after the 1st win of the season each year. They instantly predict that Hill or someone on the team will be the Hesiman Trophy winner and that BYU is on their way to the elite college football playoffs as one of the best teams in the country. Sorry not going to happen. First, to get to the football playoffs you would actual have to be a ranked team first. The former so called legend Bronco was like 1-25 against top 20 ranked teams during his tenure. Just ask the Utes how much fear BYU has given them in the last decade. As for future Heisman's coming out of BYU, not going to happen in the future, thank you Ty for the memories. As for Brandon Doman and his coaching ability and that he didn't have talented enough Qb's to work with? The QB's he had to work with were for the most part where the ones that he personally selected under his recruiting responsibility, remember he was the QB position coach long before Bronco the Bone head made him the OC. So no one to blame but Brandon himself for having such an poor string of QB's at the Y while he was coaching. Probably the worst years of QB's at the Y during his coaching years than the past 40 years. The minute they fired Brandon at the Y the offensive passing game and productivity picked up immediately and never looked back. Since Brandon was fired no Division 1 school has been interested in hiring the former OC from BYU that lead them to all time historic lows in offensive production. No Utah D1 school, not Snow college not even his former hight school at Skyline would hire him. The only thing that Brandon has been busy doing is helping his former QB' s dry out from his bad drug addiction. Maybe Brandon has hope as a drug counselor.

Wow!!! So I am guessing you like the new hires?

Who are you calling a BYU loyalist? I hope not me... the only bad thing when Utah and BYU play is one of them has to win.

NCAA...that was one of your weirder rants. As a reminder, this is the Weber State fans forum. I'm sure most members are wishing Steve Clark good luck in his new assignment, which is at the Y and are happy to see two new coordinators being promoted from in house. I don't see how these hires have anything to do with the FBS playoffs, Heisman Trophey, or other teams in the state. Baffling?!

As for the hires. To me, they make sense. Kaufusi is a no brainer. He is a guy who will really get the most from the defense, and let's be honest Coach Hill will still be over-seeing his work quite a bit. Sitake is a bit confusing. The throwing game hasn't been good but a lot of that could be the QBs fault. It'll be fun to see.

As far as I am concerned, all of our coaches are the best. These new coordinators may turn out to be the best we have ever had. None of us really know what they know, or what is in their heart and souls. I'm sure that they are not perfect, none of us are. One thing that I am sure of is that nobody that we will play will have a clue as to how they may call a game. They shouldn't be predictable for at least a few games. I also expect them to have extreme energy in all facets of their jobs. I'm sure that they are anxious to show that their promotions were warranted.
