Offensive Line

It has taken a few years but the Cats are starting to look like a football team again. Some big hogs are joining the program. As I have preached throughout the years, a team is defined by its lineman. Everything starts in the trenches. Hill wants to be a contender. You can't do much if you don't have the lineman available to get things moving. I think he has the lineman, on both sides of the ball, but especially on the offensive side, to get back into contention.

At first glance, I don't think we should expect too many changes with our starters. But what is nice is knowing there are going to be a number of really good backups and depth.

Starters:

Center: Big Joe Hawkins
Guards: Cameron Young and Tui Crichton (he probably won't be playing too much during Spring Ball)
Tackles: Justin Turner and AJ Wilcox

From the looks of things, those guys will be pushed hard. These JC kids look really good and the freshmen have tremendous potential. Behind that line is a stable of running backs and receivers with depth.

I haven't felt this good about our chances since McBride was our coach. The icing on our cake is that we are getting a lot of high quality local talent. Two years in a row we have picked off some local talent who had FBS offers. That is exactly what it takes to get to the level we all want.

You can have the best skill players in the world and they won't look good behind a poor O line. Likewisw, you can have average skill guys who look great behind a great O line. The same thing happens on the defensive side. Everything starts there. We are getting there.

Only real loss is Alex Land (Mike Cisneros also appears to be gone). Add the two JC transfers and the OL should be deep and pretty dang good. Don't think you'll see any of the incoming freshman play, and most are probably mission bound. May see Feleti Mulitalo return from a mission.

Returning:
Cameron Young, Jr (12 G/12 GS)
Joe Hawkins, Sr (12/11)
Shane Oliverson, Sr (12/10)
AJ Wilcox, Jr (8/5)
Tyrone Brown, Jr (6/5)
Max Curtis, Jr (6/0)
Justin Turner, Sr (4/4)
Tui Crichton, Sr (4/1)
Bruce Baron, So (0/0)
Ismael Betancourt, RFr (0/0)
Nick Giles, RFr (0/0)

Those juco kids don't look half bad! :thumb:
