***Offical Portland State vs New Mexico Thread***

Hind Site . . .

Looking back at what we did last year at OSU and BSU i'm really glad that we played both of those schools. And this is one of the many reasons why I think its good for us to play more than one 1A schools and that reason why is because when the pressure starts to build on the offense and guys are starting to loose there nerve those veterans like Sawyer will step in and calm everybody down and say hey we have been here before, we can win this, now lets remember our jobs and lets go win this game!!!

We definitely have many Captains on the field who played last year at those big and tough games and they know that they are good enough to win.

That is going to be one of the biggest keys to this season!!

I think we have a very good chance at knocking off the Lobos.

In 2000 the viks went into aloha stadium and stun hawaii , i got a gut feeling that it might just happen again.
But it's going to be new mexico this time.

Hate to rain on your parade, guys, but as a huge fan of UNM sports, and the father of a DE on the Lobos (thereby being given the inside scoop on lots of FB info,) many of you simply don't know what you're talking about.

Everyone knows what you did at BSU last year. It's the first home game of the year for us, and Rocky was absolutely disgusted (as were UNM fans) with our home record last year.

Our OL is again massive & mean. Very mean.

Our DL is young, but has much more talent and depth than last year.

Kole (our QB) is an incredible athlete, and is loving this offense of Bob Toledo. It's an amazing change from last year.

I can simply see no weaknesses on this team, except for experience.

Good luck to you.

The thing is, BSU knew what we did to Fresno St., and Fresno St. new what we did to Hawaii - it doesn't mean that knowledge helped them. I think your guys are in for a close game whether they see us coming or not.

Somebody must see a weakness since you guys are picked 5th in the Mountain West in most pre-season polls. However, pre-season polls are what they are, pre-season polls.

Also, skill positions are tough to fill and you don't know that you've found an adequate replacement until the season gets going. DonTrell More and Hank Baskett were huge for you guys last year, and now those positions need to be filled.

PS. I wouldn't exactly say that we don't know what we're talking about. PSU fans such as myself grew up watching Toledo offenses (Oregon) and Rocky Long defenses (Oregon State).

PPS. Tell your son good luck with the game and the season. Always nice to hear from parents of student athletes.

Well first off we welcome your fans at University Stadium. Come early and enjoy the tailgating. The fans won't treat you like jerks. They might give you a friendly boo as you walk through one of the tailgate lots but it won't be bad. It's a great atmosphere at University Stadium on gameday. They only allow tailgating to start 6hrs before game time but it's exciting out there and it gets packed. They also have food vendors next to the stadium for those who don't bring their own food to grill. OSU fans were impressed when they came a few years ago during the Dennis Erickson days. Great weather, not a bad seat in the house and great food. Because of the holiday we may only get around 35,000. Come early and have fun. Wear your PSU gear proudly. We love talking and asking questions about your school. We like your opinions on our stadium and tailgating. The tailgaters will also offer food and drink to you. Don't be afraid. Also don't offend us if we offer by not accepting. Hope to talk to some of you in Albuquerque.

I don't think your QB will have ever seen anything like he's going to see on Saturday. That's just the way our defense is. Ask Texas Tech what happens when they have played us. Their QBs always say thank god that's over with. Kliff Kingsbury one of Techs QBs got hit so many times it was a miracle he walked off the field. I think of the 95 plays Tech ran on offense he got hit 78 times. Our defense has changed this year. We will run a different defense with the same concept of attacking. Rocky likes to change it up from time to time so it's not stale. Plus he has a couple of studs he's trying to take advantage of. He adapts his defense to the talent he has on defense. We do sometimes have a hard time with our pass defense but our run defense is always stellar. As for us being picked 5th in our conference, our conference is LOADED. We have the fewest returning starters in the league and also the fewest returning letterman of any team in the league. So being picked 5th is a sign of respect.Last edited by on 2006-08-27, 20:43

Lobodoggie,

Thanks for the comments... I'll be down for the game on Saturday and to say that this work week will a long one is an understatement. I'm really looking foward to this coming weekend. My Dad and I are heading down together and will be sporting our green and white, and we'll definately head through the tailgate area to have a look around. Looking forward to a great game and a great day. :-)
