One D-II game to count towards playoff eligibility?

Ferris game will count toward countable victories under revised FCS playoff criteria, a new standard approved last week by FCS committee.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? I've been trying to find a legitimate news source to verify it, but have found nothing so far.

In a surprise move that blindsided almost everybody including NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor, the FCS Championships Committee last week approved a new ratings system to gauge the quality of a team’s schedule. It will take into account games with Football Bowl Subdivision, FCS and Division II opponents.

The expansion of the FCS playoff field from 20 to 24 teams was a reason cited for the change, Taylor said.

“There will be levels of strength of schedule,” Taylor said. “For instance, a Division II win will not count as much as an FBS win. Home wins and road wins are also counted differently.”

Taylor said the exact formula still needs to be finalized, so it has yet to be publically released.

It will be interesting to see how they come up with an equitable formula.
Will a blow out of a DII team count more?
Will a close game against a BCS team count more even if it is a loss?
How much "extra" credit would a team get for beating a marshmallow like Idaho? Seems like beating Idaho is not worth as much as a close game against a Pac 12 school.
May be opening a can of worms, but hey... it gives us something to talk about!

D-II games have always "counted." It was an issue of teams with adequate numbers of D-I wins getting preference. The notion explored in the article of D-II wins being the same as a bye week is flat wrong. 8-3 with a D-II win has always been preferred by the playoff committee to 7-4... there's examples of that each and every year.

This has to be a provision that will be embraced by the Big Sky. Really, the dumbest thing the conference could do was expanding to include the old Great West, because it left no non-conference alternatives in the West. I suspect this provision will be accompanied by an FCS rule in line with the current FBS rule that non-conference games against conference opponents will become non-counters.

This. The fact that a Non-Scholarship FCS team, such as a San Diego, count as a W towards playoff eligibility and a game against a full scholarship DII team like a Central Washington don't, has been a joke for a long time. Think about all the Pioneer and Patriot schools out East. The CAA has been feeding on them for years, and there's a lot of DII's out there that would trounce a lot of those teams. FCS by name only.
