I live in Meridian, so I won't be commenting on the open mike night. But ISU athletes volunteering at school, I'm all about that. I love to see this type of community involvement.
But my question is, where was the Journal's story on this? How about the local television channels? Did ISU issue a press release about this? I can guaran - darn -tee you that if these athletes were arrested for even the pettiest thing, the press would be all over it. And, you would not hear the end of it.
You wanna turn a few heads? Have the men's basketball team stop by the Pocatello veteran's home and shake a few hands, wave the flag, listen to a few stories and thank some of America's finest for their patriotism and their sacrifice. Bring the press with them. How about having off-season athletes help out Pocatello schools by volunteering as crossing guards at local elementary schools. Let the press in on that, too. Simple actions like these tells the community that ISU and its athletes care and support the community. The community in turn will support the school and the athletic programs.
