I think that the Athletic Dept. needs to let the public in for free for the Eastern Washington game. Start advertising now, and maybe they can bring back some of the people that haven't been to a game in a while. They could possibly fill the stands, build some future support, sell some beers, chips, and knick knacks, and maybe send the team out from Nottingham on a high note.
Students are going to come and go, but it is the general public that needs to develop interest in the team. Right now, it seems that UNC has nothing to lose by doing this, and everything to gain.

That's a great idea. Maybe give away a pair of free tickets to every youth football player in the area as well. Bring in the young kids and families that are interested in the sport.

That is a good idea. How much money do they really make off tickets anyways? I would bet if attendacne went up, then they would sell enough $6 beers to make up for it.

When I was a kid, if you wore your J.A.A. jersey to CSU games, you got in for free.
Actually, we could kill two birds with one stone. We could sell $6 beers to kids. That way, we wouldn't be losing anything. (Man, I should have gotten a marketing degree.)
Seriously, the Athletic department should do it at least one game every year to build support within the community. I don't know how the financial end of it works, but it seems that they could write off any loss as marketing, or community outreach.
(Heck, for some of the players, it could serve as community service! )

What they would need to do is discount that game for the season ticket holders as well or just say all free tickets are for GA sections only.

The athletic department already gave out free ticket vouchers to all the kids that play Rec Football/soccer for the November 8th game. The kids Rec jerseys, blue/gold have the UNC athletic logo and get kids in free to all UNC athletic events with a paying adult. The athletic department has always done a lot of good outreach with the kids in the community. Since Tad's been here, BB players have spent 1 or 2 Saturdays at the Rec Center during youth games, hanging out with the kids and doing give-aways.

As for just opening the gates, sound like socialism to me, but I guess by the 8th we will be living in a socialist country!

That's good to know that they are reaching out to the community. It's less about socialism and more about marketing. Just like drugs, the first ones free...

Yeah but drugs make you feel good...

UNC football hasn't made me feel good since... well I can't remember but I was a lot slimmer and had a lot more hair that's all I know.

You should run for office, Ursa...You're good at twisting others' words.

I don't know why this reminds me of this chant (the tradition arguement) but it's pretty funny.

40,000 Liverpool fans singing to Chelsea:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk5fyBfUAhs&feature=related

Fuuuuuuuuuuck off Chelsea FC
You ain't got no history
5 European Cups, 18 Leagues
That's what we call HISTORY!!!

I would love to see more people at the game. Attendance is a joke. I like the ideas and the passion. Until some games are won it won't matter though. If you give someone crack and they don't get high, what was the point.

Believe it or not, that wasn't meant as a shot at you. Now, over on another thread... :P
