Opening Tip-Off

I think we have only won two opening tip offs this season. And they came against ISU and MSU... If Rahe radlly wanted the ball for the opening possession, why wouldnt Joel be jumping instead of Tresz? I remember good old Frank Session jumping for the opening tip...

Side Note: I dont like the opening video and music during player introductions..... Last years was much bettter.... IMO.....

Agreed on the opening video. The overall presentation, including the opening music, video and Super Annoying Timeout Guy have all taken a giant step back this season. Does anybody else notice that the music they play is too damn loud? :|

There's been criticism of super annoying guy, but let me go on record as saying:

WALDO IS AWESOME!

Really fun to watch!

The positives:

Waldo is awesome. It is very rare to see a mascot be able hang with the Jazz bear in moves.
Rob Alexander has a great PA voice.
Carl doesn't seem to be using quite as many dumb analogies (no honey boo boo references)
There are a ton of giveaways this year.
I loved the elementary kids last night. That should happen every game.
We don't have to watch the ridiculous find the ring box game anymore.
The halftime entertainment has been pretty good.

The Negatives:
I think the Intro is too long
Super Annoying Time Out Guy needs to be replaced with a student
Dutch Belnap still sounds like he swallowed a cup of rock salt. Replace him with a student too? And don't tell me that we should keep Dutch because he is free. There are a lot of things in life that are free but aren't worth having.
WE NEED MORE STUDENT SUPPORT!

Wow is all that I can say. You guys are the biggest bunch of whiners, cry babies and malcontents that I have ever seen!! Complaining that the video intro is too long, the music is too loud, we actually have an in crowd announcer, some people in the crowd actually cheer and annoy you with what they chant, Carl Arky, Dutch Belnap, etc, etc, etc. This is so pathetic that I am almost speechless. A few years ago we didn't have the ability to have an intro video, the lights couldn't go off without waiting 1/2 hour for them to come back on. My dad is over 70 yrs old and has never complained that the music is too loud. If it is, turn down your hearing aid. At least Weber is making strides from where they were 5 years ago.
Who would you propose to replace the 2012 Utah sports broadcaster of the year????
Switch out Dutch with a student??? Are you kidding me?? Where is the student going to pull their experience and knowledge from - Church basketball?????
In short, DEAL with it!! This is College Basketball!!!

The only think we need to change is more students support. The SATOG (Super Awesome Timeout Guy) is way better than what we had before. My question is who the heck is getting a scholarship or a paycheck to pack the student section?

 SATOG has been toned down; Rob A is great and now does the quiz, but PLEASE put the questions up on the screen, or just forget the quiz all together. And can't the current student leaders/marketing just go back to those a few years back and ask for advice on what worked in getting a great/lively student section out!! And BLESS those students who do show up and cheer like crazy, :thumb: thank you!!!!

I think Rob Alexander did a fine job before SATOG? What do you remember that was so bad before?

Guess what? There is always room for improvement. Some ideas get launched and need some tweaking. I know major sponsors that don't like how SATOG handles their promotion. If it is about making the guest experience better, make the guest experience better.

What I have learned from BigSky TV is that our broadcast isn't as polished as some of the others in the Big Sky. We have some work to do there. It sounds better when Paul helps out Carl on the road.

I would like to see us utilizing students more and maybe they would take more interest in the program. I have an idea for a promotion involving my business that I would want to try with the students. But as long as SATOG is handling promotions, I don't want him representing my brand.

When I get criticism from my clients, I listen. There are many times when we could do things better as a company. I know that I don't have all of the answers. I am always trying to fine tune things. I just think the promotion stuff is very important because you are dealing with another persons brand. You need to represent them well.

SATOG is better the last few games. Which tells me that someone is watching the board that has some influence. So why not make some suggestions?

I pretty much agree with your +/-. I don't think the intro is too long or too loud, I just agree that last year's was done better.

"Dutch Belnap still sounds like he swallowed a cup of rock salt."   :lmao:
Seriously, my wife almost won't let me listen to pre or post game radio because of Dutch. A student color commentator would be a huge upgrade. Sorry Weber Pirate, if they can't find a single student out of a 25,000 student body capable of simply knowing a little about the game and brushing up enough on two teams to make a few interesting comments over a two hour period, then they that's pretty sad.

"WE NEED MORE STUDENT SUPPORT!" ...and involvement, whether it be color commentator, "super annoying (student) timeout guy," or any number of other things. These are some of the types of jobs the students are preparing for-- get them more internship opportunities and get them more involved. It's a school for L's sake; "a school for the students" should be "by the students!"

Student support is pathetic. Take the time to contact the advisers over the main student groups and explain that donations will be stopped if student leaders can't do their jobs. If I were a student, I would refuse to pay any student fees directly supporting any of these groups until the student leaders are held accountable. I graduated a couple of years ago and the PPAK was awesome. There was a great mix between the many groups on campus. Student athletes also would stand and yell for the teams. I remember Tim Toone being on the front row for most of two seasons helping. Yes, it was virtually run by former alumni (I would guess that they are members of this board, but were really able to inspire some current students who ended up being excellent and dedicated leaders), but was part of alumni and those alumni knew what they were doing, because they were once student leaders who were successful at filling the student section. Can't forget that the PPAK had a great adviser in Bev Rudd who would do things out of the ordinary. She actually did her job. Stop bitching people. If you want something to change stop donating to certain departments on campus until they do what they are suppose to do. I'm not going to join the alumni association until the PPAK and SAA actually lead again.

Student Alumni Association (Cat Pack or PPAK use to be this) = Melissa Leonard

WSUSA = Aaron Newman

Admission's Ambassadors = Fran Hopkin

AJ is that you?
:blah: 2012 Sportscaster of the year :blah:

I didn't say to replace Carl. There are tons of students in the communication program that love the team that could provide some help to Carl on the broadcast. You want to talk about complaining, that is mostly what Dutch brings to the broadcast in game. Then in the post game it is the same content game after game.
"Carl, I thought the kids fought hard tonight and really battled out there."
"Our seniors showed a lot of leadership tonight".

The worst part is that his voice is really hard to listen to. It doesn't make for a good/clean broadcast. Why not have Paul Grua do it? He does pretty good with road games. Thank you Dutch you have been a big supporter of the program, but it is time to move forward.

No I am NOT AJWildcat!!!
BTW there have been posts here on this board that have complained about Arky and have called for him to be replaced. I was not just quoting your post, but all of the other threads that have been on here recently. Many people here are a bunch of whiners!! I am not saying there is not room for improvement, but please -- the music is too loud??? I think that the idea of the loud music is to get people and the team excited for the start of the game. :o
