The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

As a follower but not an alumnus, the changes to bring in Bibby and Shaq are risks that have produced solid marketing results.

I said it back then, if Sac had made another run in the playoff would have been a boost to the effort.

The coach hire for football was fantastic.

UCONN needs games every year. And as football only, CUSA could be an option.

Pac-12 or bust got people excited, but maybe not being so brash could have kept the MW in play. Maybe they still are?? could be an option for the market, and football only is easier to pull off. I feel Sac would have to take a less share in either conference to start.

If stadium plan was revealed and lead donors named, more would be on board.

Hit piece. Probably paid for by Fresno State.

Also, the quieter Dr. Wood is, the more likely he is being advised by an attorney.
Anyone who does an "in depth" article/video on our situation and doesn't mention the increased student fees immediately loses credibility on the topic. I don't think people realize how much of a game changer having additional guaranteed "athletics revenue" coming into the athletic budget every year truly is.

Good post. It was an obvious marketing ploy from the jump as the normie west coast college sports fans recognize the Pac12 brand without knowing/understanding that the Pac-12 brand in '26 will be nothing like it was in the past. Additionally, the Pac push marketing campaign gave everyone, most importantly Hornet admin, a gage on alumni/fan/business/political/area resident interest in Pac-12/FBS status.

Yes the goal is to get to FBS, but FBS conferences only add from the FCS as a survival tactic. Dr. Wood needs to keep pushing on the items within his control (facilities, operational budgets, alumni/fan engagement, etc) regardless of if a lawfare path to FBS becomes a viable alternative.

They post the topics 10 days before the hearing.

Fres Not has actual cracks and structural issues and they had their county tax proposal to fix it voted down by the locals.
The FresNot crack is concrete on top of dirt so it’s more cosmetic in my opinion. I think the community knows that stadium is old / worn but that community isn’t the economic region compared to the great city of Sacramento.

We are fortunate to have such great city / community / county support to help us grow.

Agree… we could have made a few moves more politically correct but overall I also see that the ability to raise that NIL saw more value in a bit higher profile name in the PAC12 brand.

Last season FB did a face plant because the coaches failed to prepare them properly,

I’m hopeful we can have an incredible FB / BB seasons that both drive into playoffs and impress everybody,

We need full stadium this season and the well needs to get loud and fun to build some great momentum!

If we win an FCS National championship and make BB NCAA or NIT run we will be in good shape to prove we are FBS ready and a solid new Big West program that could also compete in either PAC / MWC / ACC West if FSU / Clemson leave and they expand west to support Cal/Ford?

Question- Programs in PAC / MWC signed grant of rights unless they went to P4.

IF Florida St & Clemson leave ACC would they still be considered a P4 or another G6/7 then? If G6 or 7 then SAC ST with our FB Stadium breaking ground then we should be a potential.

Lot of pressure on our FB & MBB programs to deliver results after the big $ investment.

I’m excited and also nervous because this team must GEL ASAP. Every big Sky team will go 100% all out and try to beat us badly if they can! Jealousy is a strong motivator for our old Big Sky friends we are leaving behind.

This morning, a new domino fell that might open the door for us to FBS football in 2026... La Tech to the Sun Belt to replace Texas State. https://www.espn.com/college-sports...na-tech-returns-sun-belt-conference-14th-team

Sac State and Conference USA flirted a bit but the impact to student athlete travel was too great. However, since then, Sac State smartly parked all Oly sports in the Big West. I can guarantee there are phone calls going on right now about Sac State jumping to Conference USA as FB only member to keep them at 12 and maintain their conference championship format. Conference USA would be a foot in the door to FBS and allow the Hornets to move to the PAC or MWC in a few years time.

The Hornets in Conference USA would be immediate title contenders IMO and could quickly build a mid/high major resume, especially if the facilities follow.

Would you join conference USA in '26 for FB only if they offer was on the table? I'd say hell yes.

Was coming in to post this --- I think this is the spot.
It makes too much sense not to, a lot of past FCS schools have parked there. Gives them national footprint and the biggest media market in the conference. We don't have to piece meal INDY schedules, and we get 10x the revenue sharing (if full rate) out of the gate as compared to BSC peanuts.

I'd be surprised if CUSA adds anyone with La Tach's departure. CUSA can still have a conference championship with 10 members (UTEP also departs in '26). If CUSA were to add from FCS, I think Tarleton would be their go to. Not buying the McNeese rumors unless the CUSA has a big hard on for another Louisiana member.

Our only way as CUSA FB membership would be to pay travel subsidies, forgo the little TV money CUSA FB gets, and have a short timeline of membership to facilitate our transition to FBS. We'll see if anything comes of this latest move.
