What if any openings are there on the coaching staff? I work with the mother of a guy who was a coach with Baylor before being let go when Art Briles was hired as head coach. He wants to get back into coaching and is looking at openings everywhere, even CalPoly.

The secondary coaching position is open.

His mom says he is always keeping track of openings. The only thing holding him back now is because his wife wants some stability job security offers. Hopefully she will at least let him apply.

He's a grad asst serving as receivers coach at U of Hawaii. Young but promising. Granville's connections to Hawaii live on. If nothing else, he'll bring a lot of enthusiasm.

Plus, he was a receiver under Mouse at Hawaii, so is familiar with the Davis program. The only drawback I can think of is lack of experience. The Hawaii story is interesting. Points out that the Hawaii grad asst position is the usual room and board and no health benefits, whereas PSU offers $30,000 and benefits - Stutzmann's got a family. It tells you what minimum salaries PSU is offering these days. You've got to love the game to work in it!

Warriors may lose assistant coach

Hawai'i assistant receiver coach Craig Stutzmann is expected to accept a football coaching job at Portland State.

Stutzmann has an in-person interview with PSU head coach Jerry Glanville today in Portland.

A vacancy was created on the PSU staff when receiver coach Kevin Strasser was hired as senior offensive consultant for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.

Glanville, who was UH's defensive coordinator in 2005 and 2006, said he cannot comment on the successor until a contract has been signed.

Glanville said an official announcement is expected tomorrow.

As a standout slotback, Stutzmann is eighth on the UH career list with 177 receptions in 46 games. Although he is classified as a graduate assistant, Stutzmann is in charge of the Warrior receivers.

"I love Hawai'i, and I love the program, but at this time in my life, it would be beneficial for me to take this opportunity," Stutzmann said.

Stutzmann and his wife, Briana, have a 2-month-old son. A graduate assistant receives tuition and a small stipend.

The PSU coaching job pays about $30,000 annually. But the position comes with benefits — a UH graduate assistant does not receive medical benefits — and Oregon does not have a sales tax.

"It's a fulltime position," Stutzmann said. "I have a family. This would be a way to get my foot in the door. The ultimate dream would be to start off at UH. Unfortunately, there's nothing available right now."

If he were to leave, his brother, freshman wideout Billy Ray Stutzmann, would remain at UH.

"I talked to my brother," Stutzmann said. "He's going to stay. This is a great fit for him."

Is Scott Fabian leaving, or is Steve Englehart going to be football only for a strength and conditioning coach?

Looks like we have an opening on the football staff:

Footballscoop.com states, "Portland State: We are hearing that running backs coach Kevin Emberton has decided to accept a position outside of football."
