L - @Missouri 78-64
L - @Oregon State 55-42

Obi Omegano 6'3 215 Junior Guard is averaging 21 ppg.
He scored 26 against Tulsa, and 30 against Missouri before Tinkle shut him down to 7 at Oregon State. First 2 games of the season he got to the line a combined 31 times. 4-7 from 3 this season.

A solid win against Milwaukee today. Two good wins bookend losses to good teams. These guys will be a handful.

Should be a great game, we need to keep the turnovers down and start sharing the basketball a little bit better. Here's hoping for another win over Oral Roberts, this is a great series and I wish we could schedule more like this, even though this is a forced road trip for ORU. Two good programs duking it out.

I'm excited for the game tonight. I think it is possible that we could see some changes in the starting 5 tonight. I'm not basing that on anything I have heard, just a feeling based on how we have played so far.

At any rate, this should be a hard fought game, start to finish.

Bring 'em on!

I hope the team was able to work some of the bugs out after the Paradise Jam. Looking forward to the game. Hope we get a W!

We need to shut Obi & Korey Billbury down on the perimeter. Obi is averaging around 4 turnovers per game. We need to put lots of pressure on him and make him force things. I am hopeful but also realistic about the game tonight. This will be one of the better teams we see come to the DEE this season. Lets get loud and support our team.

Stole that one tonight. But we'll take it. Never gave up and hit some huge shots in the last few minutes! That's the first game I've been able to watch this year. Rebounding was an issue tonight.

That was the least deserved win I can remember… But, a win is a win is a win! We've got a long way to go if we are going to compete even with the best of the SKY!!

What a gut check. I am afraid that there are not going to be alot of easy wins for this team. Post play in general is an issue. We were outscored 34 to 12 in the paint as well as being out rebounded. Teams are getting physical with us in the post on both sides of the ball. We took care of the ball much better in the second half.

That's why you never give up.

I thought that the two different zones rattled them, the crowd rattled them, and the team poise rattled them down the stretch. We also employed two types of full court presses.

The lineup with Hill at 3 and Gittens at 2 was on the floor a lot, and we saw Hajek and Bolomboy paired up quite a bit. Richarson was the 8th guy tonight and Johnson-Coston was the 9th to see the floor. Both had their moments.

The Oral's got the majority of calls, but our guys fought through it.

On the minus side Bolomboy got manhandled all game long, we had 8 turnovers in the first half, and couldn't hit a free throw for a while.

On the plus side we only had 1 turnover in the second half, we hit clutch free thows at the end of the game, and our three point shooting swagger seemed to return to us at the end of both halves. :thumb: :thumb:

Interesting that coach said he simplified the offense to 3 or 4 sets at halftime. It appeared to cut down the turnovers. He also said that Golden is a few weeks away from having a good grasp of the offense.

Game thoughts:

Hill & Bolomboy just don't do well together without a traditional Center. The only time I thought the offense looked better was with Hajek in the game. He tends to pick up fouls and cant defend well but then again Hill and Bolomboy don't look great defending either. Over the Summer I remember posts touting all of Rahe's complex sets-- I sure hope he's not waiting 'till January to break 'em out, I see a very stagnant offense and awkward ball movement at best. Much of the time Hill is on the floor he just stands and watches the guards struggle to keep control of the ball; if he's part of an active play I sure can't see what his role is.

It was a fun win that wasn't expected and we'll take it but I sure hope to see an offense that looks comfortable and is able to execute plays without so much sloppiness before BSC play. I hate to think what BYU would have done against this same effort tonight. Gittens had a nice game, including that bomb to tie it at halftime. Joel got his boards even though Weber was out-rebounded again. As awkward as the offense was they didn't let the turnovers get out of control which is a nice improvement.

I have a few questions/observations

1. Was I the only one that noticed we went on that 8-1 run in the first half with Hajek 5, Bolomboy 4, and Hill 3 and we didn't see that line much after that. We saw in the second half Bolomboy 5, Colston 4, Hill 3 but I thought the first one was much more productive.

2. I am starting to agree with some others who stated that maybe Golden would be nice coming off the bench to give it a nice spark. I know Coach said Golden is close and that would be great for him and the team. Golden took way to many bad shots early in the game but in the second half he calmed down and got into the paint which got him into a nice rhythm. I could see him getting that kind of pace against the second team guards from the other team and remember just cause you don't start doesn't mean you won't finish the game on the floor.

4. I agree we have too many players playing out of position. Gittens struggled a bit against the big wing, Hill had some problems with their 4s and even Joel had a few defensive problems with their 5s. I saw Gittens move well against the 2s, Hill did really nice against their wings, he even guarded #24 well at times, Joel can kill most 4s.

Why doesn't James play more? I hope we keep working at it. Tough, hard fought win got to love those kinds they build character especially in a young team.

#1, no, that's one thing I just pointed out. They had Gittens and Senglin in a two guard lineup with those three. I was complaining to my family/friends about Bolomboy and Hill struggling with three guards on the floor just minutes before coach made that change and it was noticeably better offensively. One problem is Hajek stuggles defensively and to stay on the floor, although, with only two fouls I don't know why we didn't see that lineup again. I doubt Braxton would have been ready but it really makes me want to see a quality, big 5 on the floor with Bolomboy, Hill, Gittens, and Senglin. Then, I believe the bench has more to offer and that lineup possibly sets up the bench for a different 3 guard look or finding and feeding a hot hand.

I like the fact we can enjoy the win, but admit it wasn't our best (hopefully) effort. It was a difficult game to watch and although ORU played hard, they were missing players due to illness and had been on the road for 14 straight days.

How do we turn great athletes into good basketball players? The front court seems to be outmatched in every game. Points in the paint were a huge advantage for ORU. Senglin looked better in the second half, but the charging calls are just stupid. He seems to be out of control. I think Hill is becoming a huge liability and his production is not in line with his minutes on the court. Have to be ready for BYU in the Dee!

A win is a win!

I am just curious to hear who everybody thinks should start over Golden...It's not like ANY of the bench players have exactly showed in games that they deserve to start over Golden. :twocents:

^This. It's painful watching this offense. For an offense that, according to Rahe is "very diverse", there sure is a lot of standing around and lack of ball movement. I saw very little interior play last night. Just a lot of standing outside of the three line and throwing up three pointers. Good thing we actually hit some of them or this game would have been a double digit loss.

Senglin thought they were down by three, thus the three pointer. Also, two plays were called at the end, one for if ORU made the free throw, and one for if they missed it. Problem was, the players got confused and no one really knew what play to run.

Golden is our best offensive weapon. He's only going to get better.
