OT: Manu Flips to Washington

Highland linebacker Kyler Manu, whose brother plays for ISU, de-committed from BSU and committed to Washington over the weekend. The part of this story I found most interesting was Manu's comment to the Statesman that "the Power 5 stuff" played a role in his de-commitment. "I want the opportunity to play for a national championship," he said. It will be interesting to see what impacts this kind of logic has on the Boise State program long-term. A lot of folks are speculating that non-Power 5 teams will never get an opportunity at the four-team playoff set up. My prediction: it will grow to 8 teams before too much longer. But will it be too late for programs like Boise State?

That's 14 players that I've counted thus far, who have decommitted from BSU since Petersen left their program for Washington. And seven of these players will play for Petersen at UW. Some of the others will have committed to play for teams such as Colorado, WSU, USC, TCU and others. Highly touted defensive back Khalil Oliver of Rocky Mountain decommitted from BSU to play for the Oregon Ducks. His brother, Demetrius, played for the Bengals just a few years ago, for a year before the coaching staff ran him off and he ended up at a community college in Arizona. From what I hear, there's still a lot of bitterness in the Oliver family from how ISU treated Demetrius.

On a related note the president of Boise State was very vocal against the NCAA allowing the "power 5" conference more autonomy earlier this month.

To say he wasn't happy would be an understatement.
