OT: Portland State football loses state funding

As PSU grapples with a $15 M budget problem, the school will pull all state funding -- $800,000 -- from the football program.

Talked with Portland State getting basketball info on Tuesday. Asked how the new basketball gym was going. Was told construction hasn't started yet but the state agreed to commit up to 24 million in funds. The state will match whatever money PSU raises up to that amount.

Told funds won't become available until 2015. I wonder if this news now impacts that areas as well.

That's a good question, Mark. My guess is it's a "color of money" issue: typically capital funding projects (like the new arena) are separate from ongoing operating budgets (like the annual football program). But that's just a guess on my part.
