Our Hated Rivals: Southern Utah

On a scale of the rivalry it may not be as big as the "Holy War" but to the players it sure is, I remember reading articles in the past about the hate towards SUU from Weber players. This is the kind of Rivalry Weber needs, I have always liked the Rivalry between ISU and Weber but this one seems to have more bragging rights and means more to the players right now. It's only fitting that this become a rivalry, instate, in-conference games usually are, and I think we have a legit chance at taking SUU down again in Cedar City, and that is going to be a rocking game, after everything that has happened during the offseason, and the fact that its a homecoming game, it's gonna be sweet. Im thinking about taking the drive down to watch.

The thing this rivalry needs is a name, and a traveling trophy

The game could be the "Battle for I-15". The trophy could be a billboard half way between the two schools declaring the symbolic ownership of the freeway for a year. The ad could read something like "WILDCATS", "All roads lead tho Weber State University". If SUU were to win it could read "THUNDERBIRDS", "We have a school too". :thumb: :thumb:

In all seriousness, I like the Idea of the Battle of I-15, could also go with Civil War (North vs South)

Big Sky Brawl ?

Battle for Utah ?

Supposedly there is already a traveling trophy. After losing last year (was that a total surprise to anyone else?) SUU was dancing with some sort of trophy in the mid field.

As for the article, I liked it. I feel that there is great potential for a really strong rivalry between the two schools that could really help increase recognition throughout the state. Both schools need that. Wildcat, I like the Civil War idea.

Actually according to the SUU ticket Website, this game is in fact NOT HOMECOMING. But there is no sense in letting facts get in the way of a good post.

My bad, I thought I read somewhere that said it was a homecoming game, must have been another team

I've said for several years since the teams have been regularly playing they needed to have a trophy to play for. This would give the schools something more
to play for. Living in Phoenix for several years we are ASU season ticket holders. The Territorial Cup between ASU AND U of A is a huge rivalry on the level of BYU-Utah. The little trophy that they play for means so much to the players, school and community. It's displayed prominently right inside the front door of the athletic complex. They bring the trophy out for many football/fan related activities for fans to see/hold/touch. I have a picture of my two young kids holding it together over their heads that they both consider one of the coolest photos ever.

I've never heard of a trophy between Weber and SUU. So it makes me wonder what the SUU players were running around with? If there is indeed a trophy then why don't supportive fans like we have on this site know about it?! If that's the case, the trophy needs to be promoted! Educate everyone about it so we know about it.

If there is not a trophy the sooner we have one the better. It should be small enough where it is easily transportable to take to fan events and durable enough that fans can handle it and the players can run around the field with it after a victory.

I tell you after the trophy changes hands in the ASU - U of A rivalry no time is wasted. The trophy is on the sideline of the other team. The winning team at the final whistle rushes the other teams sideline and takes the trophy away. When that is your team it's a pretty cool site to see. When it's the other team, you're so mad. It adds fuel to the rivalry.

 indeed.

I like I-15, but I like Civil War better. Maybe combine the two somehow. The I-15 Civil War Game? Sounds like an advertising sponsor.

Watch it, don't mention advertising?! That's a dirty word here at Weber. :kisswink: :dunce:

How about the biggest game nobody will ever hear about?

"Lake to Breaks Brawl"

Trophy could be a wooden paddle with Weber's trade mark on one side and SUUs on the other. To be displayed at either school you just turn it around. You could list the years on each side when they won it. :thumb: :thumb:

Got an email from Thunderbird athletics about purchasing tickets for the

Bee Hive Bowl

So guess the game is being called the Bee Hive Bowl.
