Portland State president Wim Wiewel has directed that the PSU football team become self-sufficient by the 2014-15 academic year.

This Story was out last December but is an interesting read especially the reader comment following the story. EWU is always working on attendance and season ticket sales and getting to the next level but then you can't forget there are a lot of schools that would love to get to Easterns level.

It always cracks me up when I hear fans start spouting off about schools moving up and all they consider is market size and forget fan base or winning tradition. SAC St and PSU have by far the largest markets in the Sky, but it hasn't done them much good.

Almost seems like a death sentence for PSU football, will be interesting to see how it turns out. Heck, EWU is only 6 years removed from almost dropping football....

A lot is changing with the college football landscape, especially with the recent announcement from the SEC commissioner that the Big 5 conferences want out by August. If that is true, it leaves Eastern in a difficult situation. If the Big 5 get their way, and sooner or later they will, the other 5 FCS conferences will probably need to add some FCS schools to make their division stronger/deeper. There will be an opportunity for schools to move up and hopefully EWU puts themselves in that position. Right now we probably don't have the facilities or fan support to make a move like that and we definitely don't have the $$$ for the move, hopefully Eastern is working on progress to make the jump up, because we need to. If we get stuck in the 3rd division of college football it will be a huge drop off from where we are currently at right now...

Does any body know for sure if our Football program is self sufficient? Thought we were working in the red. Very few teams are in the black...especially FCS teams.
