Part Deux: North Dakota

Personally, I think the UND game will be a little tougher in Grand Forks than what it was here in Ogden. The Sioux were reeling and had just gotten their top player back from a prolonged injury. Needless to say, the Sioux weren't playing good basketball, but after a month and some time to get back into game shape, with Troy Huff leading the way, it looks as if UND is playing far better basketball than they were, and could be a challenge for the Cats. I'm hoping the Cats take care of business and start this second half of the extended road trip off in style by beating UND. Gotta start winning again.

I agree. UND does show a renewed enthusiasm. They will likely be ready to redeem themselves after their showing in Ogden. However, I believe that our guys will have extreem confidence in this one and that it will be very hard for UND to overcome that. :coffee:

The UND fans acknowledge that Weber has more talent, but are hoping to catch us in a moment of non-focus after last week.
Huff returning to their lineup makes this different than the Ogden game.

Brekke is also supposed to play after an injury, which would help their inside game, but it may take a few weeks to get back to game shape for him.

The Wildcats just need to go out and play their game, use their strengths and take care of the ball. Less turnovers means more points

I believe they had Huff when they played us in Ogden. I think we defended him well. As I recall the game, we pressured their guards and frustrated them a bit. The little guy went off on us, but in the end it was just too much one on one ball that did UND in. I expect the same. :coffee:

i like that und is NOT sitting in 11th place as a the new member like ewu did for its first 10 yrs lol. better throw sac in there too.

at und should be one of the worst road trips for weber to make, do you fly into winnipeg or minneapolis? first ever at und. game.

we just need to get it done then on to unc.

catcat, there is an airport in Grand Forks, should be able to get from SLC via Denver or Minneapolis. It would be a 7+ hr bus ride from Mpls, not something to look forward to, so I hope they were booked onto flights there.

I actually flew in there from Mpls in another life, but it was so long ago (early days of security screening) they did not have baggage screening x-rays, they opened your luggage and felt around your stuff and viewed if you had a weapon, etc. This all happened as you were boarding, so needless to say, it took a long time and was not pretty.

I'm not about to predict a win for North Dakota, but I certainly don't expect us to get blown off the court like we did in Ogden. They seem to be playing with confidence, having won 4 their last 5. Huff and Anderson have been playing excellent basketball of late. And we do play much better at home than on the road. Our junior class has an atrocious road record of 8-33 in their careers.

They key for the Sioux to have any success against Weber is for us to play "team" basketball. Our 3 main ball-handling guards need to share the ball and trust their teammates. When they do that they are pretty good. But too often it becomes all one-on-one play all night that leads to horrible games.

As far as the travel, Grand Forks has direct flights from Denver. Additionally, Fargo which is just an hour bus drive away, has direct flights from both Denver and SLC. The UND-UNC road trip is not nearly as bad as a couple other ones in the Big Sky, especially not as brutal as the Sac St.- NAU road trip.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow night. Hope its a good one!

good to hear travel isnt as bad as i thought but i still expect it to be a tough road trip for us annually. good to see und improving as well.

Is Brekke going to be playing tonight? That's the Sioux big right? If the Sioux could have stayed healthy and had their bigs available they would have been better than what they were at the end of December. They are really playing good basketball right now.

Grand Forks isn't too bad of a place to get into. I would like to make my way to UND. A few years back I was accepted to Law School there, but decided on a different path. I'm now kicking myself, because UND is an excellent academic institution, flagship school (which has hundreds of opportunities at the fed and state judicial levels), and is in a nice location. Oh well...life goes on.

As for Weber fans showing up tonight. I know of some. I have some friends who aren't from Utah, but have Utah connections, who live in Fargo and Grand Forks who will be at the game tonight cheering on the Cats.

The latest we heard up here is that Brekke could potentially play on Saturday against Idaho St. You are right, that he is our best big man. However, with all the time he has missed, I doubt he'll be all that effective right away when and if he makes a return. If he comes back this season, I'm sure the staff will ease him in pretty slowly, with the goal to have him as close to 100% game shape by the time the tournament rolls around.

Us North Dakota fans are pretty disappointed with how things have unraveled this season amongst our front-court. Brekke has been the biggest loss. He likely would have been a 12 point 8 rebound guy this season, based on his first two years. We also lost an effective Juco post player after the first semester due to grades.

Gotta take in stride though, it is all part of it. We've been playing decent of late, making do with the smallish lineup that we have.

Any insight/concerns about what went wrong for Weber in the last two games?

Defense is the biggest concern over the past two games. Against UM, when Weber went into a zone, the Grizz were ineffective and committed TOs, but Weber kept going back into a man that was exploited by the Grizz and Bobs. Teams are preparing very well for Weber based on the fact that the Cats won't play zone or can't attack a zone. It is fairly frustrating and has been for the past few years. Teams have been attacking our man to man by spreading the floor and penetrating. Slashing guards has been our achilles heal this year, which is weird since our guards are just as quick. I think some of the easy home games allowed our team to think they were better than what they really are and they got soft. Weber was out rebounded and out toughed last week in Montana.

Also, TOs have been a serious concern. Granted, Lillard was our PG last year and Hughey/Bam were the year before with Rich taking on some duties as a Fresh, but this year the PG play has been somewhat inconsistent, especially when Gelaun gets into the game. He has a tendency to push things and when he is off from outside, yikes he is off.

SINEP!!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL...

When did we stop being friends? :dunce:

29-26 Cat's up by 3 at the half. Rahe should be ticked. The last 5 minutes we got our butts kicked rebounding. I don't know how many 2-3 chances UND had at the basket but it was way too many.

Regroup, come out and put these guys away.

Anyone think for 1/2 a second that Fulton would pass the ball the first time he touched it... Black hole.
