Fresno State: Sources tell us that the athletics leadership met Sunday afternoon to discuss candidates. Names that we hear were discussed include Doug Nussmeier (OC at Washington), Steve Mooshagian (HC at Ventura College), Kelly Skipper (Running Backs Oakland Raiders), JD Williams (UNLV) and Jethro Franklin (DL Miami).

Yeah, just saw that. I was coming on here to ask the rest of you to send a warning Fresno St fans about that possibility. I don't think Fresno St should have to suffer the same fate as Sac St did during the Moosh years.

If they want a Raider assistant as their next HC, they'd be MUCH better off looking at Special Teams Coordinator John Fassel, who already has college HC experience, albeit at the D-II level. His work with the Raiders' specialists is nothing short of amazing, and he will likely do as well at the D-I level. Given that his background is as a QB/WR, he'll also be guaranteed to have an exciting offense.

Fresno should be able to do better than that list. I wonder if this will lead to any opportunities for us to pick up transfers, recruits or coaches from Fresno.
I hope that Mooshagian holds out for the davis job!

I can’t see FSU admin being stupid enough to allow Moosh to make the shortlist for their HC job...I really can't. An interesting note I read is that Pat Hill never fired any coaches from his staff. Ever. Maybe if he was proactive enough to make changes to his staff when needed he wouldn’t be in the situation he is in now. He built a pretty good resume’ in Fresno and for a while had a damn good program going. FSU is looking in pretty bad shape heading into the MWC next season. Good thing for them the '12 MWC won't be much more competitive than the WAC they were jumping away from.

I wonder how seriously Sperbeck would have been looked at had this season not ended in such embarrassment.
