penalties

Interesting that 2 of the lowest 5 teams in team penalties are military academies. Discipline or coincidence?

Well it got better yesterday but still not acceptable. An example of the extended ramifications of penalties.
ex: at the end of the first half the Griz got the ball at about the 20 with 54 seconds left. No one knows if they would just run the clock out or try to score. On the first play Havili gets called for roughing the passer moving the ball up to about the 35. Now they have a shot and end up with the hail mary that ended the half and added 7 points. Only shows up as 15 yards in the stats but may have been a costly TD.
Who was the freshman TE that spiked the ball on the sidelines and cost us a unsportsmanlike call? WHY??
Of the 8 penalties for 84 yards several were self inflicted pain that is unacceptable.

I was wondering why he got flagged. Missed the spike.

I thought it was going to be a targeting call on Montana at first.

Agree with the general spirit of your post. Couple things:

1) The roughing the passer was untimely, but it wasn't an egregious penalty as far as mistakes go. I can almost accept one of those from time to time when the D Line is getting after the QB.

2) #10 shouldn't have thrown the ball up in the air like that, but it was right after a vicious helmet to helmet hit that should have been a flag for targeting. I think he was frustrated by that and let emotion get the best of him. That guy's going to be a really good player for us.

Agree with all of this. Even the announcers were discussing how low on the scale that unsportsmanlike was. I've heard a lot about how good Talolo Limo-Jones (had to look up the name for spelling) is going to be, and I'd say he is going to live up to the hype. That penalty was ridiculous.

It was a typical game in Missoula. Montana got some very generous calls like they usually do. Fortunately EWU was good enough to overcome them.

We regressed this week with 9 penalties for 95 yards. What records do not show is the impact those penalties had on drives.

This where I see potential. We're 10 points better on both sides of the ball if we limit penalties and turnovers to acceptable levels.

vs SUU- 6 for 85 yards but like that does not tell the whole story. ex:A holding call on kick off return was 10 yds but it negated a runback to the 40yd line. So instead of starting from the 40 we start at the 10, a net penalty of 30 yds! :ohno:
