Pension News

A Channel 13 expose just revealed that Donald Gerth has an annual CalPERS pension of over $270K. This for a guy who essentially sat on his rear for nearly 20 years? He certainly didn't support the athletic program, and in fact hindered it.

While I don't begrudge a man a decent retirement, this is ridiculous. It's things like this that are causing kids to be turned away by the CSUs.

Oh com'on. That is only $22,500 a month. It is still a fixed income. Besides, a guy can barely afford a mansion, the country club, his ex-wife and a mistress on that kind of pay. Have some pity will yah? Let's raise taxes and tuition to help him out. That is were he grandiose pension is coming from. What'do yeah say?

Has he donated anything back to the school ($$$) that is of significance?

Could you imagine the horror of a Gerth Arena or the Gerth Bowl?

Don’t worry, I’m sure there are hundreds of other “educational” administrators that haven’t done a whole lot in their career banking off of CalPERS.

I'm sure there are. Gerth was identified as one of the worst of the bunch, though. The report identified a "$100,000 Club," where members are sponging CalPERS for at least $100K/yr. Some were fire and law enforcement. The watchdog group they mentioned cite 6,133 members of the CalPERS $100K Club.

And, that's not all, there's another 3,090 members of the CalSTRS $100K Club. I'm not too worried about that, though, because those are mostly teachers who have contributed to society, unlike the administrators in CalPERS, who didn't do diddley.

Of course, the unions claim they have nothing to do with it, representing the "$20K Club." I don't buy that for a minute. Unions suck.

BTW, California Pension Reform holds Gerth at #3. At #1 is one Bruce Malkenhorst, retired from Vernon, who gets a cool $499,674.84 per annum from CalPERS
