Pilots/Vikings rivalry

UP's freshman are playing well, especially Sikma. Raivio has been outstanding, as well. I'm glad UP has him and Ito for the next two years.

What do people expect for Tuesday? Was the win over the Huskies a fluke?

First off... Great breakdown.

Second. I have class and had to give my tickets up.

I think that the x factor for a Viking victory will be Thomas and Mara. Boards and banging in the block will win this game. Also, if JD can lock their point guard play down, that will help. I'd like to see five steals versus twenty points in his stats.

I was very confident of a PSU victory, but after watching the Pilots beat the Huskies, I'm less sure of a win. Reveno has done an amazing job of coaching up his post players. They absolutely stood up to Job Brockman and bullied him right back, and I don't see anybody on the PSU roster with that kind of bulldog attitude. With the improvement at UP, I'd say these teams are fairly evenly matched now. I'll still pick a PSU win, but it will be due to homecourt advantage and little else.

Thomas can bulldog.

I watched the UW vs UP game on tv Saturday night, and was impressed with the Pilots. Coach Reveno looks to have done an excellent job in rebuilding their program, a program that just several years ago looked absolutely horrible. One could draw parallels to what Coach Glanville is trying to do with the Viking's football program with Reveno's effort on the bluff, but I'll save that thought for another time.
U of P is a grind it, physical team with a number of "bigs" that hustle, bang and on occasion arguably play a little dirty. The Pilots have added a nice piece in T.J. Campbell, who is an undersized point guard, and he hit a couple of nice 3 point shots against the Huskies. I don't recall him driving to the basket much, but he is built like a bulldog and looks to be an improvement over Ito, who now comes off the bench, at the all important pg position. Niedermeyer, the SF, seems vastly improved and is dangerous hitting the three point shot also. Raivio, the Pilot's shooting guard may be their best all around player and he is hardnosed.
This year's game has the makings a close and exciting game, as the smaller, more athletic Viks will have their hands full with the new and improved Pilots. I've always felt the Pilots/Vikings rivalry could become a great one and potentially this could be the game that starts that feeling to became a reality. It would be beneficial for both schools for this to happen. The key to the game will be play of our bigs, Thomas, Coston, Mara, Jones and Nelson must be ready to battle under the boards. Is Visockis playing? The Viks could really use his big body. My prediction: PSU - 68, UP - 67. Go Viks!

Really? Both teams under 70? That would be interesting, and maybe a sign of trouble for the Viks whose fast paced style is conducive to big numbers.
