Players gone?

So is Mara the only player to leave and why?

Who all has signed for next year other than Melvin Jones?

Not sure why Mara decided to leave, but he was going to be a 5th year senior, wasn't going to start and I speculate decided to move on in life. The other player I don't see on the roster anymore is Wendell Wright, a 6-5 G-F, who was very athletic and a good defensive player, but was very raw offensively. Again, I do not know why he isn't on the roster, he would have been a sophmore next season.

No one else other then Jones has signed, but Nathen Lozeau, a 6-10 Center transfer from the University of San Diego, will be headed to the park blocks this fall. I believe he must sit out next season. Coach Geving is looking to sign another "big man" for the upcoming season.

Chris Harriel and Max Jacobsen have signed as well (although they signed in November) and both are expected to have impact as freshman. That's too bad about Wright, I think he has a lot of potential and might have had the best combination of size and athleticism on the team.

What? Wright is gone? This is too bad, as he was probably the most highly rated high school recruit that PSU has had since bringing back basketball.

So does anyone know if the Vikings are going to sign anyone else?Do they have any scholarships available?Another big man would be nice.

I know they're at least looking at Tyrone White, formerly of Jefferson HS. That doesn't mean there's a scholarship offer on the horizon. However, with Wright out, I'd expect we'll see someone else coming in, most likely another JC guy.

White Searching For A New Home

When the fall signing period closed, Tyrone White thought he had found a school to fulfill his dreams. The 6-foot-6 guard from Portland's Jefferson High School spent a year at Air Force Prep Academy, and liked the academic and athletic atmosphere enough to accept the Air Force's scholarship offer and sign a letter of intent. He has since received a release and is exploring his other options.

"It really came down to academics with Air Force," White explained. "I wasn't doing poorly, but they're the number six school academically in the nation- with them it's not all about athletics. They said there were others competing for the scholarship, so we decided to go our separate ways.

I was all set to go in there and start for them. They were 0-16 in conference play, and really wanted me to come in and start at either guard spot for them. But things just went a little different than planned," White said, adding that Air Force is helping him contact other schools in search of new home.

White played much of combo guard position throughout his high school career and completed the same task in prep school. Playing the last 22 games of the year primarily at the point, averaging 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists per contest, adding weight to his frame (up to 185 pounds from 168), and leading his team to the second best record in school history (23-9), has drawn the interest of several division programs.

"I just sent out my packet and highlight tape to about eight schools I've been talking to," White said. "I sent stuff out to the two local school- Portland State  and Portland- sent it out to Boise St., Utah St., San Francisco, Pepperdine, Florida International and Siena. All of the schools just said that they needed tape from this year to really evaluate."

White added that Tennessee-Martin offered after the season, and although he is considering their offer, he also stated that he wants to see if other offers come from the schools he has been in contact with.

OregonPreps will continue to follow White and the other unsigned seniors throughout the late signing period.

White seems like a great fit. I hope he come sto PSU, but I'll pull for him wherever he ends up.

Tyrone White Highlight Tape from Airforce Prep

Impressive tape. Not a great ball handler for someone who sometimes plays the 1, but he appears to have excellent vision and unlimited range. On top of that, he isn't afraid of penetrating (unlike Phil Nelson and Kyle Coston). I think he'd definitely be worth an offer if Wendell is actually gone. After all, PSU does have the Ime Udoka scholarship for Jeff players.
